Who Got The Better Deal Here, Dallas Or Houston?

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 12:44:24 PM

We already told you about Jon Bon Jovi joining Bruce Springsteen on stage at the AAC over the weekend. Now we have news that Alejandro Escovedo joined Bruce on stage last night in Houston. Here's the video...

It looks like the Houston deal was more planned out; Bon Jovi basically just came out and smiled at the crowd while singing the first verse to "Glory Days," while Escovedo sang a track of his own...

So, the question is, who got the better deal here? For the record, Wilonsky says Houston. I, meanwhile, am leaning toward Dallas. --Pete Freedman

We also got Joe Ely... I think Houston def came out on top. Especially since The Boss knew both Escovedo's and Ely's songs and sang along with them.

I'm actually a little surprised no one in Dallas jumped up and cleared the stage with a shotgun when Jon came out.

j.d.w... says:

Houston. They got Thunder Road AND Rosalitta... pbbbt!

ChrisU says:

well I saw Jason Garrett and Babe Laufenburg at the Dallas show....just being facetious. Ely and Escovedo, Houston got the better deal. this time.

dtc says:

are you off your fucking nut? you'll take bon jovi over alejandro escovedo?

KyleRoxhard says:

I was at both. Hands down, Houston got the the better set but the crowd sucked ass. Entire sections sitting down during Born To Run. Are you kidding me?

merritt says:

Houston. Houston. Houston.

chris gray says:

Agreed. If Houston got Escovedo, Ely and "Rosalita," and Dallas got JBJ (snicker - is he a friend of Cuban's or something?), why are we even discussing this?

Bob Ruggiero says:

I work for the Houston Press and did the Springsteen show preview interview with Little Steven as well as the post-show review (check it out at www.houstonpress.com under the "Houstoned Rocks" blog).

Without having seen the Dallas show, I would say it would be hard to beat Houston. High energy all night, lots of meaty tracks, and not one but two special guests. After Escovedo, Joe Ely came out and played "All Just to Get to You," a track off a 1995 Ely record that he recorded with Bruce. And THAT was better than the Escovedo number.

Also, backstreets.com, the authoritative Springsteen web site, gave Houston the nod both in their written review and the post-show update on Sirius's E Street Radio Channel.

Ricky says:

Pete,

Bon Jovi sucks.

ChrisU says:

Dallas is getting Ozzfest. Houston wins again

Noah says:

Jon Bon Jovi is a douche, though he'd certianly fit right in in Victory Park. Escovedo and Ely are legends...it's a no brainer.
