Deep Ellum is changing. Transitioning. You know this. The area has endured a rash of club closings, struggles with the city and the ongoing construction of the DART rail. For those of you who aren't spending time in the area, we've taken photos capturing Deep Ellum's transition. Get a feel for where we're at with our slideshow. -- Chelsea Ide

Thank you for taking the time to point this out Chelsea. If Dallas remotely has a soul, it is time to build upon that spirit and prove our integrity for future reference by not tearing it down. These are not just empty buildings and potentially pricey real estate. Deep Ellum is in fact a neighborhood that still retains a piece of our history.
This should be appreciated and respected for being priceless. We have plenty of cheap ass, poorly built, multi-use developments already. The lack of pride of where we come from is why we as a city, have been unable to hold a candle to the other cities we hope to be as sweet as. Things will be all right or somebody / everybody, will pay in the long run. Don't believe me? Time will tell, I promise...

I love the photography.
However, the person who wrote those captions should revisit them. Art Bar was closed a couple of years before the SUP hearings and Clearview didn't survive, it closed for business when the Art Bar bit it.
Also our empty brick walls are being filled by the Mural Contest Frank is heading up.
And the periodic table on the side of what is now The DOOR was part of the last Art Conspiracy's fund raising efforts.
More recently, Russell donated a wall for the upcoming mural contest, so look for a bit more color to adorn those black walls.
