Edgefest 17: It Actually Doesn't Look That Bad...As A Slideshow

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 03:45:44 PM

crowdsurfing.jpg

Sorry, guys, but there was no way I was heading to Pizza Hut Park yesterday to see Edgefest 17. A festival headlined by 3 Doors Down and Puddle of Mudd doesn't really tickle my fancy. And it wouldn't have in 2002, either.

Apparently, though, DC9 photographer Roger Caldwell didn't get that memo. He went to Frisco to take in the event, and actually put together a fine photographic collection of what the event was like. Seriously, check it out.

....then will someone please explain the draw of these bands to me? I'm all for trying to see the light on this one and having an open dialog here, but I just don't get it. Like, at all. --Pete Freedman

I wish the Fuck Buttons had played. What a great name.

...obviously nobody else reading this article gets it either...

These are really just more popular versions of the kind of crap local music this blog writes about. If Puddle of Mud was a small local band relegated to playing the Plano Center, yall would probably profile them as an up and coming band, but really, you don't understand their appeal? You really don't understand a lot about music. DC-9 at Night writers: I challenge you to name your ten favorite pre-Nevermind albums quickly off the top of your head. Nevermind was a Nirvana album BTW.

OK, I'll bite. Not counting anything obvious (the Beatles, The Stones, Zeppelin, or Michael Jackson's Thriller), here's my list, in no particular order:

1. Pixies - Doolittle
2. Beastie Boys - License to Ill
3. The Clash - London Calling
4. The Cars - The Cars
5. Modern Lovers - Modern Lovers
6. The Band - The Band
7. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
8. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols
9. Hall & Oates - Rock n Soul Part 1 (kinda cheating here, it's a greatest hits album)
10. Boston - Boston

But I was all of 7 years old when Nevermind came out, so what do I know?

Also, for the record, you asked about my favorites, not the ones I deemed the best. Entirely separate questions.

Lastly, Nirvana was overrated. Get over it.

Your turn, Sean.

Herbert says:

Nirvana was overrated? Pete Freedman has bitch tits!

Sean says:

Pete, you seem like a decent guy and a good sport, but I can't list my own favorites because I read this blog so that I can judge others, not so others can judge me. Thanks for humoring me, though. Also, fire all of your writers.

dave Little says:

and then sean can list his 10 favorite local bands. he's got alot of work ahead. i hope he can still get the lawn mowed before dark.

dave Little says:

damn.
