Could we have a famous singer-songwriter local on the cusp of making it big? Or is it even fair to assume a song appearing on MTV’s The Hills warrants a music superstar in the making?

Today's issue of Amarillo College's The Ranger, profiles Dallas artist Damian Giglio, whose song, “The One,” appeared on an episode of the pseudo-reality show last year. And that’s a good thing because, according to his MySpace page, he dreamed as a kid in Beaumont of having his music played on MTV. More Giglio tunes have been licensed for other MTV shows, including The Real World, and other reality programs, like Oxygen's Bad Girl’s Club.

And the dude’s not even signed. That's becoming less and less of an issue these days, though, as UT’s The Daily Texan mentioned last week.

Although he says he’s moved to Dallas to make his music dreams come true, you have to head to Denton this Friday to actually check him out at R Bar. His music is on the warm and cuddly side and probably perfect for the MTV demographic and, um, the college paper crowd.

Personally, I’d love to hear him cover “Just a Gigolo”. Get it? Gigolo? Giglio? I kill me. -- Rich Lopez
