Oh snaps. This just came out over the MySpace bulletin board a few minutes ago (which would be just a tad after 11 p.m.) all caps and all. John Freeman over at Sloppyworld says that this promising venue is closed down. At least for now:
SLOPPYWORLD SHUT DOWN BY THE MANTONIGHT RIGHT BEFORE THE BANDS WERE ABOUT TO TAKE THE STAGE AT SLOPPYWORLD, 5 COPS AND A GENUINELY NICE LADY FROM THE CODE ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENT FINALLY SHUT US DOWN. THIS MAY JUST BE A TEMPORARY DEAL OR IT MAY NOT. BUT FOR THE IMMEDIATE FUTURE WE ARE CLOSED FOR BUSINESS. TO THE BANDS THAT WE BOOKED, I TRULY APOLOGIZE AND WILL TRY TO MAKE IT UP TO YOU AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
IF ANYONE HAS ANY EXPERIENCE AT ALL WITH PERMITS AND LEGAL STUFF PERTAINING TO GETTING A PROPER C.O. AND BUILDING PERMITS IN A RUSH, PLEASE PASS THE INFORMATION ON TO ME.WE ARE DOWN BUT PROBABLY NOT OUT. ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZINGLY HELPFUL. I WANT TO AT LEAST BE ABLE TO HAVE ONE LAST BAD ASS ROCK BLOWOUT BEFORE IT ALL GOES DOWN.
THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT THROUGH THE LAST MONTHS.
THE NEGATIVLAND SHOW WILL STILL HAPPEN. MORE DETAILS AS THEY DEVELOP.
THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, DALLAS.

Could the whole SUP business be coming back to haunt the area? We’ll keep eyes and ears out for additional details. -- Rich Lopez

Shit! That sucks ass. I doubt it has to do with SUPs since he doesn't have a liquor license. As it says he needs help with his Certificate of Occupancy, which is totally different. C.O.s aren't insurmountable, so hopefully they'll get rolling again.
Also Elm Street Bar closed last week and Darkside shuttered it down yesterday.Sad days for my neighborhood.
