OK, so Return to Forever isn't playing the Nokia Theater until June 1--but this show's something of a big deal, folks. The Chick Corea-led RTF hasn't played together since 1983. But, now, 25 years later, the band's reunited for a cross-country tour, which, lucky for local jazz fans, is taking a pit stop in Grand Prairie. Tickets aren't on sale yet, though...
Still, if that gets your jazz juices flowing, then you might want to check out a couple other jazz performances happening around town this week and next.
First up, tonight, Club Dada's got itself something of an all-star jazz line-up. Featuring local favorites Yells at Eels, Chameleon Chamber Group (an act comprising of Denton favorite Paul Slavens and three members of the Polyphonic Spree), and perhaps the most appropriately named jazz/punk group of all-time, Seattle's The Dead Kenny G's, the show gets underway at 8 p.m.
Second, you might be compelled to head to McFarlin Auditorium on Friday night to catch four-time Grammy Award-winning jazz singer Dianne Reeves.
Lastly, there's the 8th Annual North Texas Jazz Festival, put on by the UNT Jazz Studies program and the Town of Addison. That goes on next Wednesday through next Friday. The evening events are sold out, but the day-time Q&A sessions and panels are open to the public.
