We've Got a New Music Editor

Tue Jan 08, 2008 at 12:23:32 PM

After months of searching, we've finally signed up a new music editor. Pete Freedman, who is currently the arts and entertainment editor at the Colorado Springs Independent, will step into the position February 4. Freedman met up with the Observer staff last week, and while in town made a point to hit up Deep Ellum and Lower Greenville. Before he even inked the job papers, he was seeing shows at Club Dada. We're confident this means he's ready to jump into our scene.

Freedman will be blogging like crazy here in DC-9, and we're excited. He's been writing music, culture and film (without screenings no less!) in Colorado Springs. We just read his features on Helio Sequence, John Waters and Schoolyard Heroes. Enough of the past. We're ready for him to take the music section helm. -- Chelsea Ide

don't tell him about Austin

Bubba says:

Way to go Village Voice media... Another newcomer whose musical knowledge dates all the way back to The Shins and Deerhoof. Sam was bad enough. At least this one can keep us updated on local bands like Ghostland Observatory!

Mikey says:

I give him 4 months. I at least hopes he knows that bands from Denton and Ft. Worth are ok to write about too. I will start reading the music section again if more than 2% of local bands are written about.

Welcome Pete. Nice to read you've hit the ground moving. We'll be excited to read more.

Ditto that Bill, welcome Pete. I look forward to reading what kinda trouble you can stir up in DdFW.

zack says:

The best thing about this guy being selected is the disappointment the current DO music writers must be feeling by not being selected or probably even considered. Even your bosses think yall suck!

Hey Pete,

Welcome to Big D., with radio love from Panther City.

welcome pete...drop by dada again some night and i'll buy you a nice, cold blue moon.

Danny says:

Indeed...welcome to Dallas (and Fort Worth and Denton). Now, I'm not sure I'd have chosen Dallas, myself, over Colorado Springs. But you did choose a damn good music scene to cover.

Amanda says:

Welcome aboard.

From Colorado Springs to the Country of Eleven Hundred Springs. I like all this springs talk...

Welcome to the Big D Pete!

Ruth Wachendorfer says:

did the guys at the ticket have anything to do with Jonanna leaving??

Eggplant says:

In the two years or so that Pete's been the A&E editor at the Indy, I've never seen him at any art show or music venue. He was abscent from the scene. It is curious that when he took over the helm the Evangelical Christian (think Ted Haggard, Focus on the Family, etc.) rock scene started to get lots of coverage even though nobody gave a shit about that music. Have fun with your new mut.
