Bits: New Gazelles Songs, SPIN Digs Smile Smile and Shorelines End

The Gazelles are giving it away. (Luke Lanter)
A few local music tidbits overheard this week:

1. Denton's Gazelles know how to make us happy. They're making their new songs all available for free for download on MySpace. Frontman Adam Bertholdi explained it all in a blog post. "Since it's been forever and a day since we've had some new stuff, we've decided to give this away for free," he wrote. "There's only one STIPULATION. You have to give it to at least three friends, and let us know what you think via MySpace comment. It's called paying it forward. So feel free to burn, send, upload and tell your friends all about it." The indie band is demoing more new stuff in preparation for a full-length.

2. Apparently someone at SPIN magazine thinks Shorelines End and Smile Smile have promise. Original Penguin is hosting "emerging artist" showcases each Saturday through December, and someone (we're not sure who) at SPIN picked which bands from North Texas will play at Original Penguin's NorthPark Center store. Shorelines End is slated for this Saturday, Nov. 10, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m and Smile Smile is set to perform 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 24. All of the sets are acoustic and, presumably, intimate. We haven't heard from anyone else set to perform. If you know of other Dallas favorites set to play these gigs, do tell.

3. Forever The Sickest Kids uploaded the fifth track from their EP Television Off, Party On, "I Don't Know About You, But I Came To Dance (IDKAYBICTD)," to their MySpace. Despite the ridiculous name for the song—really ridiculous—the track illustrates the melodic rock that got the six-piece a deal with Universal Records last April.

4. Flickerstick is putting the finishing touches on its DVD. The band says it needs a touch of tweaking and then a release will be slated. Until then, Flickerstick is touring a bit. Full schedule available on the band's Web site or MySpace page.

If you hear of anything awesome going on or a band we really should be covering, please let us know. -- Chelsea Ide
