Gas station tacos shouldn't get a pass just because they're gas station tacos. Actually, gas station tacos should be judged with even more scrutiny than most other tacos. The idea of easy greasy, hand-held food after squeezing the trigger on a gas nozzle should be enough to raise the standards of even the most ravenous taco enthusiasts.

That's why you know the trompo tacos served at Bachman Lake Tacos and Grill are the real deal. They're worth a surgery-ready scrub down and hand sanitization. They're worth a trip to this small Chevron gas station even if you're not looking to fuel up.

The trompos are stacked with pork by hand, sometimes several times a day, and then set on a large vertical grill to spin until the meat blisters and blackens. When you order a trompo taco the cooks shave off a little pork and throw it on a flat grill to give it more color. Pair meat cooked with this much love with chiles toreados and a stellar hot sauce, and you've got one of the best tacos served in Dallas.

And a full tank of gas.

The guys who run this taqueria are some hard working dudes. I'd like to see more people slip a buck in the tip jar. I eat the Trompo a few times a week. Love/hate seeing them on this list. Kind of a well kept secret.


Definitely the second-best taco stand in this part of town.  I just can't ever force myself to pass La Nueva to get there though.


We tried Knife this past weekend, and the Bacon crusted bone marrow and San Diego uni is unbelievable.  It will be a travesty if it doesn't make the list.


This place really is surprisingly good. Eat there whenever I am up in that part of town. When I worked up there it was that or the original Sonny Bryan's for lunch depending on my route that day very often.
