The White Rock Local Market Will Meet All of Your Gift-Giving Needs This Weekend
"Local" is a buzz word we often attach to produce and meats we buy from small farmers who live within driving distance. But the local movement embraces all businesses within a specified radius, in an attempt to keep money in the local economy and reduce environmental impacts.
It's never too cold for a farmers market.
If you've been looking for a way to spend more of your money locally, you might note that the holiday season is here. With gift-buying at full throttle, you're sure to spend more money in the coming weeks. Here's your chance to spend as much of it as you want locally.
This weekend the White Rock Local Market is holding its annual Holiday Extravaganza, and the list of participating vendors goes far beyond your typical weekend farmers market. In addition to a whole slew of farmers and various food artisans, furniture, beauty products, candles, art, photos, housewares, vintage bikes and more will join more than 50 arts and crafts vendors.
Dad has enough ties, and Mom doesn't need a cheap new pair of slippers, either. This weekend's market offers an opportunity to gather some gifts that show that you actually give a damn. And it should be a lot more fun that wandering around lost in a crowded shopping mall for your sister's size-medium green sweater.
The event is scheduled Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Lakeside Baptist Church on Garland Road. And since the weather forecast is looking a little dicey, you should check out their Facebook page before you go. They'll post the news if it's canceled.
