OK, turkey revelers, it's about time for elastic pants, pie and plates of regret. But, before we get too deep in the holiday mood, let's pull back a little. Don't hit the season too hard. Walk in softly. After hours of being stuffed like a turkey in a small house with your bestest relatives, it's totally natural to feel the need to escape get a little fresh air.

So, we've put together a list of the best dark bars to hide in, which are all Hark-the-Herald-Angels-Sing open on Thanksgiving!

Good news, this list is even better than last year's. Yeah 2013! There are some newbies and a few classics. Bless them.

The Windmill Lounge is open on Thanksgiving! See, the angels are singing. Or is that karaoke? No matter, the front door should be unlocked by 7 p.m.

If you're feeling a hipster/cowboy-ish, or have relatives to bring along from ... anywhere ... head down to Adair's Saloon in Deep Ellum, which opens at 8 p.m.

Lakewood Landing, recently anointed to Thrillst's list of 33 best dive bars in 'Merica! opens at 8 p.m. and will stay that way until 2 a.m. (No kitchen, just booze.)

This year's Best New Bar,Twilite Lounge, in Deep Ellum will celebrate its first Thanksgiving with doors wide open from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m.

And Jason Boso didn't open the Truck Yard so he could sit on a stuffy couch. They will have regular operating hours (no, it's not a dive bar, but it has a bar in a tree so it exceeds categories).

Ten Bells Tavern in Oak Cliff will pull down the bar stools at 6 p.m. The kitchen will be closed, but there will be ample stories about the owner's recent trip across the pond. Cheerio!

Cosmo's Bar and Lounge on Skillman will open at 7 p.m. and the kitchen will be cooking in case you hit your stride again.

The Goat? Of course. Don't ask silly questions. They open at 7 a.m. (Not a typo. Yes, just after sunrise.)

If you feeling like kicking back in grandma's recliner, then The Grapevine Bar on Maple will open at 8 p.m. Gobble. Gobble.

Some days call for a good beer paired with good music. The Dallas Observer 2012 winner for Best Bar Music, Strangeways, will be pouring pints and spinning tunes from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The Slip Inn opens at 9:30 p.m., but after midnight is probably the best place to start.

You're welcome. Be safe.

What a crock!! These places should all be closed down. I will make certain to conduct an investigation on each place and I will make sure they are abiding by all the TABC laws and properly filing their liquor sales.

@MelodyH1 try the FOE sometime, just down Lakeland and Arturo.  It says "private club" but all you have to do is sign in as a guest, then enjoy the heated patio, trees, sports on TV and free popcorn. $2.50 beers, $3.50 call
