The West End Pub Has Closed After 25 Years

WestEndPub.jpg

On Sunday evening as most people in the universe were watching a chemist rig a gun in his trunk, the West End Pub was preparing for its very own finale. After 25 years of business in the West End, the self-described "neighborhood pub without a neighborhood" shut the doors for the last time.

Bob Allen of the West End Pub posted a lengthy eulogy on behalf the restaurant on Facebook, which thanked many regulars for being in the same seats nearly every day for 25 years; while others stopped in before Stars or Mavs game and others who popped in for the Pub's world famous chicken salad.

Allen calls it the "end of an era," but also the beginning of a new chapter, one of good memories, and he finishes with a sincere thanks to everyone who ever walked through the doors.

Twenty-five years is ancient in the restaurant world. The majority of restaurants fail in the first year, according to the Perry Group. Of those that survive the first year, 70-percent fail within three to five years. So, good on ya', West End Pub.

Seems like I can't read anything without a Breaking Bad spoiler in it.

Went there about 12 years ago. The waiter was a absolute dick. Never went back.

I am soooo sad! Has anyone notified the 'usual suspects' who chewed the local fat after hours at WEP??? There are going to be some very forlorn officials now. I am going to miss their classic 80's happy hour grub.

It says much about them that they made the quarter-century mark.  West End has been DEAD for at least a decade.  Another example of the city letting a great asset go dark in favor of newer, shiner developments that come with large amounts of taxpayer money going  to developers...instead of keeping up with what we have.

@irl_ellis Construction is about to begin on a huge new apartment building on North Record, and there will be a park located in what's now the parking lot between Old Spaghetti Warehouse and TGI Friday's. This should pick things up. One thing that would liven the district up even further would be to replace that silly 4-way stop at Corgin and North Market with a classy roundabout.
