Gas Monkey Bar and Grill, from the Guys Behind Discovery's Fast N' Loud, Is Now Open

Gas Monkey Bar and Grill
Fast N' Loud is a TV show on the Discovery Channel (Mondays at 8) in which hosts Richard Rawlings and Aaron Kaufmann of Dallas-based Gas Monkey Garage find forgotten classic cars and give them new life and then some. Being acute businessmen, they've expanded their brand to a full-service restaurant, bar and music venue at 10261 Technology Blvd, between Stemmons Frwy and Loop 12.

The large venue has two split-level outdoor decks, a large indoor dining space, and indoor and outdoor bars. Everything here, like their cars, is fast and loud. The El Jefe burger is made with an onion jam, pork rind fried jalapeños, cheddar, "house" bacon and a fried quail egg. A side of collard greens is cooked in a Texas Pale Ale; there are red chile grits and bacon battered chicken fried steaks (with bacon cream gravy).

Texas Post Oak smoked meats sold by the pound are served with "monkey sauce" or (512) Pecan Porter barbecue sauce. The proteins include a sea salt and black pepper-rubbed black angus brisket and coffee ancho black angus short ribs.

There's lighter fare, but that seems really pansy at this point. Salads and sandwiches (pork, chicken and brisket) and some appetizers. Sprinkled throughout the menu are some interesting plates, perhaps upscale bar food, like the Pan de Campo that comes red chili cilantro pesto, red onion, beefsteak tomato, house made bacon and goat cheese.

Gas Monkey has been working out all the kinks with slow openings the past two weeks. Hopefully, they're already at full-throttle mode. On September 21, the Old 97's will play at Gas Monkey, followed by Hank III on October 3 and the Misfits on November 6.

So, if Gas Monkey gets a show, when can we book a table at Duck Dynasty Diner? Or Honey Boo-Boo's Hot Mess? Mark Cuban's Shark Tank, anyone?

It could very well be the worst food in the world! Not sure, not been there yet but I will be. Judge the food like you would a car! Are you not going to test drive a car because it looks old or it is refered to as the heap? It may be called gas monkey but have you ever tried monkey ass? Might be good! People eat bugs and stuff like frogs so monkey ass might be tasty. As soon as I get a chance to get there I am all over trying it all. Canadian fan. P.S. I want to help with a build!!!

Excellent barbecue brisket, got that dark pink ring going, good bark, well seasoned, love patio and garage doors that open to outside.

Rawlings is an ol running buddy of mine, good to see him doing well.  He isn't playing a character on the show, he's always been just like that.

OK. I get the branding, thing,  but if nobody else is gonna' touch this, I just have to mention that Gas Monkey is probably the worst imaginable name for an eating establishment, EVAR.

Or Honey Boo-Boo's Hot Mess?

I just imagined a place intentionally serving "sketti with butter and ketchup" and threw up in my mouth.

Imagine if there was a Duck Dynasty Diner in Dallas, then we could maybe get great acts like Dwight Yoakam to play somewhere besides Ft. Worth.

I'm just excited that someone is occupying the former space of Firewater. The location is great for me and I love their outdoor space!

@TheCredibleHulk I'm with you. I will probably go see Hank III when he plays there but eating will be out of the question. The name makes it sound like they advocate farting at the dinner table.
