Glazed Donut Works Opens in Deep Ellum (But is Already Closed -- For the Day)
LDD Plain glazed.
The sky over downtown had a pink glow early this morning as Glazed Donuts Works (GDW) in Deep Ellum (2644 Elm St.) opened for business. One might suggest that the brief pink hue was from the GDW's fluorescent "Eat Me" sign that hangs over the Elm Street sidewalk, or just a coincidental play on passing storms and rising sun. Either way, it was a good morning for fresh pastries.
Glazed was abuzz with downtown workers and a few students from the school a block over. This was their official first day of pushing from-scratch doughnuts and, as expected, the staff was trying to find a rhythm with filling boxes and orders.

GDW seems to be using a just-in-time inventory system. They constantly cook in the back, with fresh trays brought out every five to ten minutes, and pickings were a bit slim.
The Elvis Killer with bacon, banana and honey is assembled only after ordered. However, the Achocolypse Now is a monument to sugar and chocolate and is ready to devour. Assembling those certainly takes time.
For now, Glazed opens at 7 a.m. until they run out, or noon-ish, whichever comes first. They sold out by 9:00 a.m. today. But, fear not, they open again tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. They are, however, closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 7 a.m. until sell out. Saturday 8:30 a.m. until sold out.
