It was an ALL-CAPS throwdown last night at 3015 at Trinity Groves, where restaurants have been throwing down as a way to build anticipation for that development's completion. Chef Daniel Pittman and his team of "gypsies" from LUCK (Local Urban Craft Kitchen) pitted their culinary chops against Chef DJ Quintanilla and Linda Mazzei from the endlessly fun to say RESTO Gastro Bistro.

The two new restaurants will be opening sometime later this year at Trinity Groves, and for most folks this was their first chance to sample the goods.

"Does anyone at this table smoke?" -- Lucky Campbell
Mark Brezinski introduced the contenders and explained once again the format of the event. This time around, presumably to save time and get us out of there before midnight, the first course would be grab 'n go rather than served at the table, so folks could drink, eat and mingle until course two service, which began at 7:45.

Two important things to mention about this event were the cocktails shaken up by Lucky Campbell on behalf of Resto, and Four Corners Brewery being poured to accompany LUCK's cuisine.

Also present were the folks from Kate Weiser Chocolate and Tamale Diner, both of whom were dolling out samples and selling their delicious wares to the crowd.

But you want to see some of this week's edible matchups, yes? At your service.

I've now taken to predicting the winners of these bouts based on the initial reaction of the crowd to each team's introduction. More cheers = more fans = more forks. I called LUCK the winner before I'd eaten even one bite of food. And I was right. Congrats to the folks at LUCK for moving along to the next round.

Next week's Fork Fight on August 8 at 7 p.m. will be between Rounds 1 and 2 winners Souk and Chino. Menus and tickets can be found online. And if you can't attend, watch this space for my recap.

I really don't get what the attraction is for these events.
