A new juicing bar, Nekter, is opening at 6712 Snider Plaza this Friday across from SMU in University Park. Originally founded in Newport Beach, California, Nekter is a vegan juice bar concept that offers all-natural, raw and vegan cold-pressed juices, smoothies, acai bowls, salads and skinny cocktail mixers along with organic premium cleanses. Not that we think you look unhealthy or anything. We're just saying that if you're reading City of Ate often ... well, you know, it couldn't hurt.

In just three years, Nekter has opened 15 locations and has another 12 scheduled to open by the end of the year, along with 70 additional stores in 2014 and 2015.

At the grand opening on Friday, from 7 to 11 a.m. Nekter will offer free 16-ounce juices or smoothies, and the first 50 customers will get a $25 gift card.

The menu at Nekter offers a variety of concoctions made with vegetables, fruits and proteins whirled into a cup. The Buzz is made from carrot, orange, lemon and ginger ($4.75 for 16 ounces). The Glow is made with carrot, parsley, kale, spinach, celery, lemon and ginger ($4.75 for 16 ounce).

The acai bowls are sort of like a yogurt parfait. For example, the acai banana berry bowl has acai, banana, nut milk and berries over agave granola topped with berries.

There are also smoothies, like the Date Nut made with raw vanilla bean cashew nut milk, dates, bananas and nutmeg, blended with ice ($4.75 for 16 ounces).

There's also a variety of cleanses. A one-day cleanse is $75 and the five day is $375. The cleanses are made with "as many vitamins and nutrients in a single day than normally consumed over an entire month," according to the description. An entire 15 pounds of cold pressed fruits and vegetables are in one day's cleanse.

Nekter opens Friday at 7 a.m. and is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store is one block south of the roundabout in the center of Snider Plaza.
