At Indigo Indian Bistro in Lewisville, a Buffet, a Staff and Naan Worth the Excursion

Yesterday I found a great Indian spot in Lewisville near Vista Ridge Mall, Indigo Indian Bistro (500 East Roundgrove Road). I arrived a little after 2 p.m. and wasn't sure if the buffet was still going and since I needed to get it to go I was generally confused on the best way to acquire my lunch. The owner picked up on my slightly sheepish approach and literally walked me to the buffet, explained different dishes and gave me a general tour of the place. Quite nice of him.

I went with the $10 all-you-can-eat lunch that includes two long buffet tables of different Indian dishes, one with six meat dishes and another with six vegetarian options. They included: lamb and vegetarian biryani, chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, lamb rogan josh, Tandoori chicken, eggplant with potatoes and tomato gravy, mushrooms with potatoes and carrots and fried vegetable fritters.

In the middle of the room is a large round table with salads, sides, condiments, olives, peppers and sauces (at least 15 different options).

The dining room is large and open, with bright walls and colorful art on the walls, all of which are casual and fun. Tablecloths and formal settings at the tables are a fancy touch, I suppose. From what I can gather, this spot opened just this year.

The staff/family that own this spot are all excessively nice. But the naan stole the show -- the best I've ever had. They keep it in the kitchen and prepare as needed, instead of letting it dry out on the buffet. Since mine was to-go, they wrapped it in aluminum foil and it was piping hot after spending some time on a grill or something in the back. There were two pieces at least 6-by-6 inches each of flaky, flavorful layers of fresh dough, perfect for scooping up large chunks of that pungent lamb and chicken.

Indigo Indian Bistro is open seven days a week, for lunch (11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) then again for dinner (5:30 to 10 p.m., 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday).

I'd love to "get into" Indian food.  There must be some restaurants that specialize in particular regional cuisines and I'd like to learn more about them.  Same for Mexican regional cuisine.  I think we're all well schooled in the different regions of Italy and China.

Mughlai blows.  I've been there for both lunch (buffet) and dinner numerous times and it sucks.  Chennai Cafe is much better.

@Twinwillow You know, I would love it if I could enter my likes into an app and a particular regional cuisine would pop up.  I like fish, chicken, lots of vegetables, hot spice, easy on the cumin, and no fenugreek.  I'll bet there is a region that fits that bill.
