Nine Places to Picnic Before Summer Hibernation

We're dangling on the precipice of full-on weather hatin'. It's peeking at us from just around the corner. That means you have just a few days before we all hibernate under the constant buzz of our a/c units until late fall.

Following is a list of nine places to consider for an outdoor lunch. This isn't patio dining, but rather B.Y.O.Brown paper sack with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich-type thing.

The next few days should be a bit cooler, before it gets in the high '90s next week. Oi. Here we go ...

Klyde Warren Park, of course. But, you knew that was coming, right? This green patch in the middle of the bustling city is a slow, deep breath. There are usually food trucks around or you can BYO-whatever. And no one will look at you funny if you lie down for a nap. Even if they do, who cares!

There are two places around the area for plane spotting. Years ago I worked near Addison Airport and would often see people sitting in their trucks eating burgers while watching small planes lift off. From Addison Road, go west on Excel to Westgrove Road where there's a parking lot.

Founder's Plaza at the north end of D/FW Airport has more space and they run traffic control chatter over speakers for a little ambiance. There are some picnic tables and telescopes. Depending on the wind direction, you'll either watch take off or landings, but either way it's pretty cool.

I'm glad you deleted this comment also, the part about the pooping in The Trinity was WAY out of line. Here's Marge in Garland, she's a poor overweight slob, and she's reading a nice story about eating outside, in a beautiful setting, and here's comes the Kerg's destroying her bliss....WTF?  Even I'M made at me!

ps-I actually once did see a guy pooping in The Trinity like it was his own personal toilet.  Can you imagine John Neely Bryan doing a random bombing run back in the day?  I mean, back in medieval Dallas, atleast they stored "all dat poo poo" on Caddo Lands.

Dear LDD, you forgot about the natural beauty of The Trinity River, south of the I-30 bridge!  Why yesterday I put down a checkered blanket, a basket with French breads in it, and opened a bottle of cold, crisp chardonnay.....then I glimpsed off to my right, and a homeless guy was sh+tting in said river.

ps-Nice touch with the CRP, that area has several spots where one can "get outside"; in fact, on Monday I'm dropping my daughter and her friends off at Six Flags, and putting the ole kayak in at Cedar Hill State Park. I mean it's not Lake Travis, but it works!  BTW, I was kayaking last year in LT, and happened upon   Hippie Hollow........wow.

Until Main Street Park is turned from a dog park to a "people park", there's no way you'll find me napping on that lawn.

@kergo1spaceship Did you join the festivities at Hippie Hollow or paddle faster? You know the people that always go to those places are never the ones that should.

I paddled like the dickens, and got the hell out of there!  Let's just say, on this particular day, zero models were sunning on the rocks-none.
