Whataburger Condiments Now Available At Grocery Stores

It was just over a year ago that Whataburger announced what turned out to be the temporary demise of its popular Spicy Ketchup. The company held a contest to give away the last case of the oh-so-slightly piquant condiment, under the guise that we might never see it again.

And then this March, Spicy Ketchup returned through a limited batch release, which stoked the fires for rabid fans who missed the stuff. It's turned out to be a big marketing schtick for the release of Whataburger condiment available for retail purchase at H-E-B grocery stores.

Spicy Ketchup fans no longer need to stockpile U-Hauls full of small condiment containers to get their fix. Both the spicy and original "Fancy" versions are now available for purchase in 20-ounce bottles. There's Original Mustard in 16-ounce bottles, too.

Need something to squirt them on? Later this summer, H-E-B is also launching "Whatafries." They aren't french fries but a potato chip version of the french fry, cut from real potatoes and available and sold in a bag. I wonder how long before someone turns one of the sacks into a walking taco.

I wonder what in particular qualifies this ketchup as fancy?

In 2023, we'll look back at this as the move that ruined Whataburger.

Nothing like a 30 mile drive to Waxahachie for some condiments.

Hello we don't have an H.E.B here in Dallas, c'mon Whataburger!

Why would you buy these condiments (a fair question in and of itself) when they are free by the handful all over town? The picante, too.

Why in the name of all that is holy are they not selling their picante sauce?

There aren't H-E-Bs in Dallas or Fort Worth, sad day. Think they'll sell these at Central Market (owned by HEB)?

When I can get Arby's sauce in the store, that will be awesome

correction ... not on shelves until summer. June/July timeframe per Whataburger. "Coming this summer to all H-E-B grocery stores!"

The bucket was the worse part. One was never enough and two would be too much. It pained me to have to throw away half a container of ketchup because I was out of shit to dip in it. Especially when I was using the last two of my stash.

When I read the headline, I gotta admit my laptop started tilting. I really want to see if my love of whataburger ketchup is because of the taste or simply a mental thing because of the effort it takes to build up a nice supply. Unfortunately, the 3 closest HEBs to me are Burleson, Waxahachie, and Ennis. Looks likes thats a mystery that will go unsolved.

The spicy ketchup is not very good. In fact, ALL "house" ketchups are lame. Classic Heinz/Hunts/etc. are the only ketchups that ever taste right. I think it's the sweetness that's always missing from flavored or house-made ketchups.

Interestingly, this is not at all true of other major condiments like mayonnaise, mustard and dressings, for which house-made versions are almost always better than the "classic" flavors you'd find in the condiment aisle.

Why is it not available in stores in a bucket? The fact that it's in a bucket is the best part.

Your inability to properly use the bucket is not the bucket's fault.

@AliceLaussade Whataburger ketchup without that dipping container isn't Whataburger ketchup.
