The former home of The Bicycle Café at the corner of Northwest Highway and Lawther Drive is now The Lake House Bar and Grill. The spot, which is just northeast of White Rock Lake, has been completely remodeled and transformed into a nautically themed, sunny hang out, replete with two patios.

On Wednesday I spoke with co-owner Eric Paulsen, who said they're planning a big grand opening in about a month, but for now they're easing into things, particularly in the kitchen where they're offering a partial menu, though the bar is fully operational.

Paulsen tapped longtime Dallas chef Los Akins to help with the menu, recipes and in the kitchen. For now you can get street tacos, fried calamari, flat breads with Jimmy's sausage, grilled chicken sandwiches, steak sandwiches and different daily specials. In a couple of months they plan on offering brunch.

For beverages, there's an emphasis on local craft beer and they also offer some classic cocktails along, or you can get just a beer and shot of Jameson.

The Lake House Bar and Grill is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday through Sunday.

Terrible wine selections by the glass and misrepresentations. Chenin blanc and viognier blend is NOT Sauvignon blanc.Chunky tartar sauce passed off as remoulade is another grievous error. Sautéed trout with carrots and zucchini was passable but presentation was a mess. Street noise and kids in a neighborhood bar late at night were turnoffs. Quality was missing on several fronts - food, wine, atmosphere. What's left? Oh yeah - beer. Meh....

Great place for a cold beverage and a good burger. If you are watching the traffic on N.W. Hwy something is wrong with you. The view is nice and I am not talking about the lake, traffic, or trees.

It's NOT on the lake, it is on the very busy and noisy Northwest Highway !

looks great, and it's about time we had a place like this on the Lake.
