Chelsea Welch Shamed a Pastor, Now She Needs a Job

You gave God 10 percent and all you got was Applebees?
This story from The Smoking Gun is too good not to share. To keep it quick, a St. Louis pastor patronized Applebees and took issue with a mandated 18 percent tip for parties of eight or more. Alois Bell says she left a cash tip at the table, but it's the note she left on her receipt that's got the attention of the entire Internets.

"I give God 10% why should you get 18?" she wrote, scratching out the mandated tip. She replaced it with a goose egg.

Her server showed the note to other servers, one of which grabbed a picture with her phone and sent it to Reddit, and the rest is history -- including that server's employment. Applebees terminated Chelsea Welch for violating the patron's right to privacy, and Pastor Bell is left ashamed by her "lapse in judgment that has been blown out of proportion."

I told you guys we should just get rid of tipping altogether.

I have a hard time believing the excuse that she left a cash tip. Has she never been out to eat in a group? She had to know that if the gratuity was already added in, then she would need to tell management to take it off the bill because it was already ran for that amount.

Only the people who don't actually tithe 10% let it be known that they tithe 10% and then use that lie to stiff someone from $6.50.

i know a waitress at my local bar who served a table drinks for 4 hrs, they had a $99.25 tab.  I was sitting next to them so i know they got good service.  They left a .75 tip, she took a picture posted it to FB and the GM saw it and had her fired immediately.  It really was bullshit that they tipped that but you cant go on FB or Reddit and do that shit.  We all know waiters and bartenders already talk shit about their customers no need to make it public

it may be the devil, it may be the lord but you're gonna have to serve somebody....

Still, the Pastor F'd up first. She played the god card in a very passsive aggresive way and got bit for it. Very sorry.

Just give them a decent wage, and they won't be thinking of new and inventive ways to rip off the establishment-or it's clients.  Let's face it, waiting tables suck-so they deserve something in the 13 -15 dollar an hour range.

ps-And bartenders are even worse than waiters, and most will rob you blind, drink you dry and are almost as entitled as chef's. A fare wage (without tipping) is the only answer.

@kergo1spaceship I don't think servers or bartenders do anything to rob their guests.  It's in their best interest to please you so you a)tip well, and b)come back and tip even better.  Who does get ripped off is the store by the staff giving away anything to customers in hopes of getting a better tip.  A bartender will feed you all the Glenfiddich at house whiskey prices for a great tip.  The same goes for servers.

I think it would make an interesting study to see how much stores lose in outright theft and inefficiencies caused by constant checks and procedures to thwart disloyal employees.  Some stores my find that decently compensated, and presumably loyal, servers with some autonomy make the store more money than hustlers on leashes.  Just think about how much of the store's and customer's time is wasted whenever they have to go "get the manager" for any little thing.

business is business; and we'll never look back after that last recession......march on good sir.
