Jerry's Hot Dogs
Jerry's Wood-Fired Dogs opened today at 6340 Gaston Ave. This So-Cal import uses all beef dogs in natural casings and offers more than 38 toppings; diners can build their own dog or order from the menu of Jerry's favorites.

Jerry's dogs are cooked over a mesquite wood-fired grill, which is their namesake claim to wiener fame. Those who like to witness the preparation of their meals can grab a front row bar stool at the kitchen counter and watch it all happen.

Here's a sampling of the wide-ranging menu:

Southwest Dog: bacon, chili, onions, cheddar, and crushed Fritos
The O.C. Dog: cucumber, feta, avocado and ranch
Cleveland Dog: Cleveland stadium mustard, onions, sauerkraut and celery salt
Reuben Dog: pastrami, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing
Smokey Joe's Kielbasa: European style sausage with lean pork, cracked black pepper and special spices, then smoked in the smoke house.
JalapeƱo Hot Link: Texas style lean pork with Tex-Mex spices and smoked with jalapeƱos.

Jerry's also has salads and several vegetarian dishes.

The most expensive dog is $5.75. House specialty "hot potato chips" are $2.25 and skin-on french fries are $2.10.

Beverage options include domestic, imported and craft beers as well as a soda bar.

Hofmann's Hot Dogs is supposed to open in Trinity Groves within weeks, and The Bowery opened earlier this year. Along with Wild About Harry's, Dallas officially has several options for dedicated hot-dog eateries.
