Chef John Tesar's Spoon Bar & Kitchen is Now Open in Preston Center

Categories: First Look

Chef John Tesar's latest culinary project, Spoon Bar & Kitchen (8220 Westchester Drive) is now open in Preston Center (directly across from Hopdoddy Burger Bar). The dinner menu offers raw caviar, oyster and crudo options, salads, pasta (including house-made fusilli with red wine braised octopus served with bone marrow and lobster ravioli), a ton of fish options and a few items not from the sea, including a 40-ounce porterhouse, roasted poussin and vegetable risotto). For those looking to try it all, there's an eight-course chef's tasting menu. While the tiny seafood restaurant is not serving lunch yet (they plan to start sometime in December), their lunch menu, like their dinner menu, is ambitious and includes a large variety of salads; king crab Cobb salad, a lobster salad with orange-dusted lobster, braised artichokes and wild watercress and a kale Caesar with prawns. Other lunch options include black truffle gnocchi served with Dungeness crab and sweet vermouth sabayon, squid ink pasta, lobster pot pie -- and there's even a burger.

All drinks can be ordered via iPad (and yes, each iPad is insured in case it's dropped and/or spilled on).

Over/under on the announcement that Spoon is closing temporarily and will reopen with a new concept (probably gastro pub) is January 31, 2013.

Over/under on number of lawsuits involving the closing/reconcepting:  2

Maybe it's me, or else Scott Reitz took the pictures, but none of that food looks very appetizing.  And instead of telling my server what drink I would like to order I'm supposed to do it myself via an iPad?  Can I reduce the amount of the tip I leave because I took care of the drinks myself?

Wow, somebody wrote a John Tesar piece, and DIDN'T include the stock pic of him in his Buddy Holly glasses! WTH?  Rumor is that he changed his look, and is wearing those giant Elton John glasses circa 1976........and he's donning a chicken suit.

This is supposed to be cool, but it's just, I get to order on an ipad; wopsi freakin' do!  Yuppies/Metroesses do some of the lamest crap for entertainment.
