La Banqueta
The king of all beef tacos, La Banqueta's suadero is likely the most well-known taco amongst connoisseurs in Dallas. Grab a Topo Chico from the reach-in and order as many as you can handle. You'll walk out with a belly full of fizz, happiness and your wallet intact. That's why La Banqueta is this year's Best Meal Under $15.

La Nueva Hot and Fresh Guisada verde.jpg
La Nueva Fresh and Hot
The corn tortillas here are amazing. The light fluffy rounds cradle delicious fillings and the salsas they make on site are good enough to take home. (Containers are in the reach in if you're inclined.) Many of the taco fillings are good here, but the guisado verde is the best. In fact, coupled with those tortillas it makes for the best taqueria in all of Dallas.

*****

Christina Tacos Barbacoa.jpg
Restaurant Y Taquería CristinaThe tortillas here are so greasy it's frightening, but the barbacoa will set your worried mind at ease. The meat is rich and fatty but not egregiously so and is lifted with an almost lemony flavor. Watch out for the salsas here. They're all made fresh, put Tex-Mex versions to shame and pack a serious punch.

El Tizoncito Pastor 001.jpg
El Tizoncito (Multiple locations)
While some pastor is tinged the color of a cherry Popsicle, the pork at El Tizoncito looks refreshingly natural. Modestly spiced and packed into fresh tortillas, the meat is juicy and flavorful. The condiment tray packed with salsas, onions, cilantro and limes coupled with the clean, bright dining room will make you wish more taquerias in Dallas paid this much attention to the extras.

The media de blanco always ignores Fito's Tacos de Trompo. Ya'll keep standing in line at Fuel City and pat yourselves on the back for being so diversified.

Indeed. That little bit at the top should have made that clear for me. Nevertheless, that list of candidates hurts.

Jose: As the name implies, we don't choose the nominees in the readers poll. They are the choices of the readers.

Does the term 'street taco' have to be used? That term is for people who have just discovered what a taco is. It insults the rest of us.

Where's the companion "Taco Finder" app to go with this article? I can't be clicking around on maps and scribbling notes for three minutes, now can I?

I guess you couldn't get in at Taco Borracho in the CBD because of the lines out the door - what are you people doing?  I want Robert back.

The tacos on the side of Friendly's at NW HWY and Harry Hines are my fave. Also, there's a 90% chance of seeing a crackhead, pointy mexican boots or a cross-dresser there, so it makes for amusing sight-seeing too. LOL.

Who has the most delicious grilled vegetable tacos?  Does anyone know?

Scott,

I thought we weren't going to "include" the lame Facebook crowd in the posts anymore!?   Maybe a better place for the FB crowd to meet is at a local Applebee's.  That place is full of 40+ losers, and people that don't know what Twitter is.  Hey, you all can hook up with an old fat skank at Applebee's also!

Is Mezquite still open? A few weeks ago a waitress was telling me to go to Anna's up the street.

@scott.reitz Went to Mezquite on Sunday about 5:30pm. Two women were having gorditas that looked great. I ordered the carnitas and barbacoa tacos. I noticed the cook started with packaged tortillas. I asked about the home made ones and she pulled two premade hecho a Mano tacos from the fridge. The tortillas were disappointing: very dry around the edges. Fillings were ok, not great. I asked the server about their relationship to Anna's. he said there was none. I mentioned that a waitress at Mezquite told me to start going to Anna's. He told me they were ex employees drumming up business. As for Mezquite, usually the tortillas are excellent, so I will try them again. It's menus is more limited than Ana's, but neither is it in a convenience store.

@scott.reitz @scott.reitz I have been going to Anna's when I can't get to Nueva. Good, not great tacos, hand made tortillas. I've noticed the few times I was there most customers were eating enchiladas verde or ribs adobado. I'll drop by Mezquite and see what is going on.

@Volta @kergo1spaceship Taco La Banqueta! Tell them it's your first time there and they'll give you a free Suadero taco. It's the best taco in the house. And don't forget their amazing green sauce in the bottles on the counter.
