Hofmann's Hot Dogs
This Friday, October 12, world champion competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi will judge an amateur competitive Hofmann's Hot Dog eating contest at the State Fair. The challenge takes place on the Chevy Main Stage at 4 p.m. The first place winner will receive $1,000, second place $500 and third $250.

Kobayashi is the brand ambassador for Hofmann Hot Dogs, which is owned in part by Roger Staubach and Phil Romano.

After the competition Kobayashi will give a demonstration on competitive eating skills. Given the Fair's reputation, he may have his work cut out for him.

It's not clear how to sign up for the contest. I've contacted Hofmann's for details and will update once I hear back from them. But, it's safe to say you should plan on being at Chevy Main Stage by 4 p.m. on Friday. With an empty stomach.

"I'm so excited to visit Dallas and the Texas State Fair - and on such a big football weekend," said Takeru Kobayashi in a statement issued by Hofmann's. "I intend to put on a smokin' show, so I hope that everyone can come to see me."

Originally based in Syracuse, New York, Hofmann's was recently bought a group of Dallas businessmen, many of whom are originally from Syracuse as well. They plan to open a chain of "Hofmann's Hots" quick-service restaurants across the US, starting with the first spot in the Trinity Groves Development in West Dallas later this month.

The gluttonous contest is all designed to benefit the greater good. Hofmann's is donating a $1,000 to the North Texas Food Bank.

@cityofate Keyser Söze's lawyer?

What's with all this Hofmann's hot dogs pimping going on? They're not all THAT amazing and are being bestowed upon us by a mega corporate conglomeration team. There's good sausages going on in Dallas, just not sure why there has to be a post straight from these cheesedicks' press release every time out.

 @GenoS I'd say that's a weeeee bit of an exaggeration. They're opening a new hot dog restaurant. No matter WHO they we're, we'd do a post on that. Then I feel like the lede here is more about Kobayashi. Honestly I don't think any of us care about who's sponsoring it, but it happens to Hofmann's, so that's cool. Dude! Kobayashi is at the FAIR! AWESOME! Right?
