CiCi's Is America's Favorite Pizza Chain For People Who Like Bad Pizza

Categories: Food News

Cici's Website.JPG
Cici's Pizza grease buffet is an American favorite, according to Nation's Restaurant News. The article cites a study conducted by Market Force, a consumer research company based in Colorado.

Other American favorites covered in the survey include Papa John's, Papa Murphy's and Take 'N' Bake Pizza.

If you're wondering how a small, local chain beat out the likes of Domino's and Pizza Hut, they didn't, technically. The survey was adjusted to discount chains with larger numbers of restaurants and level the playing field.

While Cici's is based in Coppell, they haven't received much love on City of Ate, either. A recent free pizza promotion prompted Lauren to put together a list of lunch buffets that are not Cici's. She somehow neglected Mughlai's.

There's a Cici's near my house.  I go about once a year when I need a quick and cheap lunch while I'm doing yard work.  I walk in knowing exactly what I'm getting - a bowl of salad and ONE plate of assorted pizza.  About 12 hours later, I get a pretty good reminder why I only go once a year.

My go to pizza is Saljos in arlington (well maybe Pantego)  best fugging slice of pepperoni Ive had in a while.  Cripsy on the bottom, perfectly sauced to where the cheese doesnt slide off, and just enough grease from the pepperoni's to soak up a splash of parm.

CiCi's. *blech*

I gotta give it up for Papa Murphy's though. When they are running that 2-pies for $10 bucks special, it's the best deal in town and they cook up to crispy perfection in 10 minutes on a hot Weber grill. (I always get the thin crust.)

*mmmmmmmmm* Smoky pizza!

The chains simply cannot do what a stand alone pizza "parlor" can, which is to turn out to order pies, paying strict attention to the crust (which is the most important part), using uncooked San Marzano tomatoes, and being light on the cheese.  A drizzle of good olive oil and fresh basil, and you're in Heaven.

next time you are  there compare how much you eat to a large pizza on special from any other chain after they rape you for the coke money it isn't that cheap I actually worked at one of their corporate store the most self indulfged ego satisfying butt wipes I have ever worked for

I wrote them off 1.5 years ago.  I ordered 2 medium pepperoni with extra pepperoni and cheese from the Wynnewwod location in Oak Cliff.  When I picked them up they always open the box so you can check them out and they were all coagulated in a lump of dough in one corner of the box barely cooked.  They closed the boxes and asked check or charge. I looked at the associate and said "really".  She said what is wrong and I told her they were still raw and all mushed to one corner of the box.  She opened them up and made a "hmph" noise and took them back to another associate and brought them back and said they are on the house.  I started laughing uncontrollably and left never to return.  So sad that North Oak Cliff has no good pizza places and surely none that would deliver.  Anyone for a joint pizza business??

People like Mcdonalds, CiCi's, Pancho's and Dickey's BBQ........news just in; people are stupid, and don't like there kids.  It's just not worth it for me, I feel horrible if I put any of that shite in my body. I feel sluggish, retarded, lethargic and angry.  Not worth it.

Really going out on a limb here, huh?

I never actually thought CiCi's was that greasy though. It was all pretty minimalistic, if that's possible at a buffet. Thinner style crust and dough, light on the toppings, small slices. It was a key spot in junior high for after school, games, dances, etc. It was our Peach Pit or The Max.

CiCi's was badass in high school when the buffet (+water) was $2.24.

But that was then.

And a lot of what I thought was badass is a dumpster fire.

@cityofate Uggh. I just threw up in my mouth reading that...and it tasted a lot like Cici's.

@EatingOurWords apparently, a majority of Americans like lukewarm cardboard with grubby kid handprints all over it. #CiCisIsntReallyFood

@todd In college, I dubbed it "Gatti's Revenge." Why I continued to subject myself to it is lost to the sands of time. At least it cleaned out the pipes, I suppose.

I wrote them off about, mmmm (pondering), about 8 years ago when my then 8 year old said "this really isn't good, is it dad?'

Right?!  We used to go to the original at Park and Coit, and that place was the bomb for poor folk like us!  Originally, the pizza was ok, the salads good, and the pasta's, dang near awesome!

@kergo1spaceship  @brad.mason.dallas That's the problem with having good taste, it makes rearing a kid that much more expensive. All those trips to Cane Rosso and Dough sure as hell add up. (Unless you're Jon Daniel, in which case your 8-year-old is a successful entrepreneur in his own right.)

@kergo1spaceship  You should've gone just down the road to Park and Preston and dined at the superior Mr. Gatti's buffet, then pop a couple doors down for a movie.
