Everyone's talking about the coming cold front, and the weekend is closing in. Sounds like a good time to get outside and explore. We've started offering a list of notable food events here, but before you make plans, we've got a week to wrap up.

This week I reviewed Island Spot in Carrollton, noting their jerk chicken is by far their best dish. Some of their hearty stews like oxtail and mutton are quite good as well, and while the restaurant isn't much to look at, it's more than worth a visit. If you want to try your own hand at jerk, I have some thoughts on manning your grill.

Elsewhere on CoA, Jeffery Hobbs has left Sissy's. Sounds like a perfect reason to debate the merits of using ef-bombs in journalism.

Football has started. Extreme Pizza used the opening to offer a special deal to fans, but it's not nearly as special as pizza from a firetruck.

And we took a first look at E bar and Emporium Pies.

Over on the Eats Blog Leslie Brenner reviews Nick and Sam's and awards two deflated stars. Keeping a soufflé on the up and up is pretty tough ... but not that tough.

On Side Dish, Nancy Nichols posted some thoughts about the Texas Episode of No Reservations, that featured Daniel Vaughn. It's not a very uplifting post. Cheer up, Nancy. If you'd rather hear the story straight from the horse's mouth, Vaughn has some thoughts and pictures he posted just before the airing on Full Custom Gospel BBQ. D also proclaimed Jonathon Erdeljac the muffin man. So there's that.

On Entree Dallas Rich Vana has an interview with the owners of Bowery. They're trying to change your hot dog perceptions one link at a time.

And the Taco Trail headed to Austin in search of puffy tacos. José is a fan.

That's all for this week. Go find yourself a patio to drink on and then check in next week. We have an interview about kulfi, a really big Frito pie and a look at Tex-Mex in Plano.
