The Cheap Bastard Is Throwing A Meat Fight, So Brian Luscher Took A Leak On Cane Rosso
Last November when I was a newly branded food critic, running around Dallas trying to figure out who had the best chips and salsa, Alice Laussade sent me an invite to a backyard barbecue. She called it "Meat Fight," and while no punches were thrown, a fierce battle ensued as amateur barbecue enthusiasts competed to produce the best brisket, pulled pork and ribs. There were also at least 37 pies, but that's another story for another day.
This November, what was once a novel competition hosted in a small, fenced-in backyard is going big time at Sons of Hermann Hall. The amateurs have been retired, relegated to mere eaters, and the big guns are coming in to strap on their gloves and battle for a great cause. Meat Fight will bring together a dozen of Dallas' best chefs to compete in four categories: brisket, pulled pork, sausage and a wild card (GOAT!). The proceeds of the event will benefit the National MS Society.
I want to tell you more about the event, but the problem is Alice is so much more funny than me I feel like I'm wasting words. She has created a website, here, and competitors like Brian Luscher, Jack Perkins and Chad Houser are making ridiculous videos to further tease the event.
Tiffany Derry, Omar Flores, Jeffery C. Hobbs, Chad Houser, Jeana Johnson, Matt McCallister and Cody Sharp will also duke it out later this fall. The event will be held 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, November 4, and tickets are on sale September 14 at $50 a pop. I don't mean to spoil things, but I think it features a young lady taking a piss on Cane Rosso. Watch out meat fighters ... this shit could get dirty.
