The British Beverage Co. Invades Uptown This Fall

BBClogo.jpg
The British are coming! (Don't worry, they just wanna get you drunk.)
Anglophiles rejoice -- Uptown will soon be home to another den of fish and chips and football. (And by football, we mean soccer.) Owners Larry Martin and Edgar Carlson, who are also behind the chain Sherlock's Baker Street Pub, will open the British Beverage Co. in the Quadrangle at 2800 Routh St. sometime this fall. The "modern, British-inspired pub" will serve classic Brit dishes alongside "surprisingly approachable American fare," so sayeth the press release. The culinary team will be led by chef Jason Hice, who's done time in the Big Apple at Daniel, Lutèce, Bouley and Bayard's, and locally, the recently deceased Nana.

The BBC will offer 100 varieties of bottled beer and 50 varieties on tap. All the UK draughts will be served in the traditional imperial pint size -- that's 20 ounces versus the typical American pint of 16, which translates to you getting a full 25 percent drunker. Huzzah! A full cocktail menu is also in the works.

The bar also will feature traditional and communal tables, two courtyard patios and nightly live entertainment showcasing local bands and DJs.

Keep abreast of the construction progress via the BBC's Facebook page.

Nothing like a corporate twist on what's typically a local, neighborhood idea.
