Olympics in England, SNACK on Henderson and A Hot Mess: This Week in Dallas Eats

The opening ceremonies have just kicked off, and the Olympics are under way. Seems like a good time to check in with our resident Brit for his primer on food from the other side of the pond. While most of the dishes Gavin Cleaver listed are impossible to find here in Dallas, you can find some decent fish and chips at the Londoner, which strikes me as a good place to watch some of the games. I'm ready for some pub grub myself, but first we've got a week to wrap up.

This week I reviewed SNACK, which I think is a restaurant that's still finding its legs. There are some decent bites to be had at Henderson Avenue's newest (sorta) small plates restaurant, though. Start with those lamb burgers and Brussels sprouts fritters.

Elsewhere on CoA we evaluated the caloric impact of Pecan Lodge's hot mess. News Flash: It's not that good for you. And did you hear that those guys are headed to Austin this fall for the Texas Monthly BBQ Festival?

We also found a new hot dog restaurant, in case you were looking for one of those, and talked to the guy behind all those crazy flavors at Frito-Lay. Speaking of Doritos, they've been added to the nachos at Rangers Ballpark. Apparently they're ROSSome.

Over on the Eats Blog Leslie Brenner also reviewed SNACK awarding two stars.

Side Dish has the saddest news I've seen in a while. I'm really into Old Monk, Vickery Park and Fireside Pies and was hoping something exciting would move into the Alma space that's been dormant for almost a year now. Turns out it's going to be the Lemon Bar. And Teresa Gubbins stepped in to review Tim Love's Woodshed Smokehouse this month.

The Escape Hatch has news that the Boulevardier will open next Tuesday, and Entree Dallas has a look at Malai's banh mi.

That's really all I see that grabs me this week. Maybe everyone is in New Orleans getting their elevated cocktail on. And speaking of cocktails, it's Friday. Time to shut down those desktops and ...

Jakes in Plano is closed....what the waht? it's the only good watering hole since Bullwinkles went out of business!  Now I have to travel to get my beloved Flamin' Rooster w/Sweet Tater Fries. Sad.
