100 Favorite Dishes, No. 58: Bistec Con Queso At El Tizoncito

El Tizoncito Alambres Bistec.jpg
To prepare for this fall's Best of Dallas® 2012 issue, we're counting down (in no particular order) our 100 Favorite Dishes. If there's a dish you think we need to try, leave it in the comments, or email me.

El Tizoncito can call it whatever they want -- alambres bistec con queso has lots of syllables and sounds fancy for sure -- but I'm calling a spade a spade. This dish is a cheese steak plain and simple.

It's not a Philly cheese steak for sure. The bread has been replaced by tortillas, and the provolone by Monterrey Jack, but the steak and onion (ignore the green pepper) combination with melting, oozing diary stays true to the flavors you've grown to love.

Order yours with flour tortillas, and if you're nimble you'll be able to pick the whole thing up like it was on an Amoroso roll. Run a stripe of spicy red salsa down the length, and then a healthy squeeze of limes and some fresh onions for crunch and some cilantro too, if you're inclined. Be careful, though. Wiz-with may never be the same again. And now that El Tizoncito has three locations, bistec con queso may be easier to get in Dallas than its Philadelphia counterpart.

While this is only half of the dish, I'm certain you can pick up the whole thing with two hands.

And don't forget the black bean soup that made last year's 100 favorites list

I've only been to the location off of Illinois, but I can vouch for everything mentioned here. I get the choriqueso, too...because it looks so terrible.

It's really good. The original location in Oak Cliff is slightly better than the other two, but they are al damn good. And killer flan

Tt's a small bowl that's smoky with ham. They bring out a little tray of condiments. Hit it with a touch of lime and get to it.  There's a location on Lemmon now that opened two months ago. I'll add the location in a few when it shows up in our database.

How did I miss this one;  It's now on my hit list...thanks for reposting.... Is the black bean soup that good?   Keep the great soup hits coming.  Soup and sandwich is one of life's simple pleasures.
