Chicken Scratch, Spicy Wings And Four More Stars: This Week In Dallas Dining

The first week of the unofficial summer season is slipping away, and I find myself craving BLT's. The tomatoes I've been getting in some of my salads have started to come to life, and I hope it's a sign that the summer fruit will fare better this year, compared with the last dismal season we had. Before I start my bacon hunt, though I've got a week to wrap up.

This week I reviewed Chicken Scratch and The Foundry, which work together to form what may be Dallas' most compelling outdoor drinking space. If the rest of the weekend has weather anything like today's, the "compound" on Pittman will be the place to be.

Elsewhere in City of Ate, we took a look at Bryan Street Tavern's new wings and paid the price. It wasn't pretty. But our snapshot of Central 214's fake gnocchi was gorgeous.

We also looked at Snack, the street food restaurant from the folks behind Nosh, which opened last weekend.

Over on the Eats Blog, Leslie Brenner reviewed Cafe on the Green and awarded four stars even though she's not happy with their gratuity policy. Tipping 17 percent is mandatory here. More if you have a large table. She also has an interesting list that compares restaurant openings from this year and last.

On Side Dish, Nancy Nichols sung the praises of Oak, a new Design District restaurant with two, glowing reviews. Reservations are definitely recommended now if you want to check out Chef Maddy's inspiring cooking.

Crave has a post on the whereabouts of Josh Black. After a rocky ride at Campo, he's landed a the People's Last Stand, a cocktail lounge that previously focused on light fare and sandwiches. Kind of sounds like a Chesterfield redux to me.

That's all that really stands out for me this week. Maybe it's a slow week on account of a three-day weekend recovery period. I've learned my lesson. I'll be at home making sandwiches till Monday.
