Oh it's just another beer festival, that's all. 'Cause that's how we roll here in Dallas. Beer festies every weekend. This one even involves running, which is great because there's such satisfaction in digging a hole just to fill it right back up.

Sunday brings the Third Annual BrewRiot Homebrew Beer Competition on Bishop Avenue between 7th and 8th Streets from 4 to 8 p.m. The event will feature more than 50 homebrew teams competing against one another. Plus there will be more than 150 different types of beer to sample. The lineup includes lagers, IPAs, Belgian & French ales and specialty brews.

The race prior to the event starts promptly at 3:30 p.m. at Nova Restaurant, where all contestants must run a total 1.1 miles. They're providing refreshment stops along the way at both the Kessler Theater and Bolsa, where runners will drink 8 ounces of beer. The fun part is that the entire 1.1 miles, including chugging the beer, has to be completed in 6 minutes or less. No spilling either. That's an automatic DQ. (Not Dairy Queen, but disqualified.)

No, not really! It's leisure stroll, but all participants receive a "1.1" mile oval sticker as their prize. That'll show all those 13.1 and 26.2 bitches. I want to enter for no other reason (which I can think of two good ones) than that sticker.

It's $20 to sample the beers at BrewRiot and $35 to participate in the greatest sprint of your life. Bonus for the runners: They get to enter the beer fest first, while all the regular lazy people have to wait until 4 p.m. to get in.

Entry into the brewing competition closed on May 11. The BrewRiot page has a list of 40 or so participants.

Live music will be provided by The Lucky Pierres and the King Bucks.

The brewers consist of homebrewers who brew less than 200 gallons of beer a year and are restricted to non-commercial entities. Judging of the beers will be based on aroma, appearance, taste and finish. Tickets can be bought in advance through prekindle.
