Make that April 17 due to tornadoes on original date.
Ben & Jerry's annual Free Cone Day was scheduled for April 3, but tornadoes forced some local shops to play a make-up game, and that making up goes down today.

Three local shops are partaking in the festivities: Plano, McKinney and the Shops of Highland Village.

The Plano store has lined up some interesting/celebrity scoopers. Mark Fistric of the Dallas Stars will scoop at 1 p.m. Kent Rathbun will be there at 4 p.m., and Moe Prigoff from A&E's Storage Wars Texas from 5 to 7 p.m.

This event benefits the Susan G. Komen North Texas Affiliates (with sales beyond what gets scooped for free) -- a partnership that, given recent events, may not have happened before the hippies at Ben & Jerry's were bought out a decade a go.

Ben & Jerry's spokeswoman Liz Stewart says "looking beyond the recent controversy, Susan G Komen does do a lot of great things for communities. So we're happy with the partnership."

While I understand the Komen issues, I can't believe some of these comments. The woman did die of cancer & they have done a lot for breast cancer research; so I appreciate this local business supporting the community. The article itself, obvioulsy the author had a personal opinion. Not sure what the issue is- great product and a company that believes in giving back. How many other local businesses have given you their product for free just to say "thank you" lately and then tried to raise money for a charity. Gee, those "hippies" are such terrible people....

What nonsense. Have you ever seen Ben & Jerry? They're both overweight. One of them that I know about, has had bypass surgery. I have never eaten Ben & Jerry's ice cream. I would never buy any of this and I would never support Komen. It's a fraudulent organization and it ALWAYS has been!

That is their prerogative to partner with whomever they please.  It is also my prerogative to never purchase any of their products ever again.  Guess what.....I won't.
