¡Fiestaaaaaa!
Bust out the sombreros (and whatever other ethnically irrelevant garb you might have), because the second-annual Margarita Meltdown is coming to the Bishop Arts District. Last year's event drew more than 2,500 people, and founders Nico Ponce of The Chesterfield and Tony Fernandez of OC's Espumoso Caffe hope to capitalize on their success again this year.

The event pits some of the city's best bartenders against one another to see who can concoct the best margarita, to be voted on by drinkers. This year's participating bars include El Ranchito, Hacienda on Henderson, Iron Cactus, Cyclone Anaya's, La Calle Doce, Mesa, Tillman's, Veracruz Café, Nova, The Standard Pour, and Sfuzzi, plus more to be announced.

In addition to free margarita tastings courtesy of sponsor Milagro, there will also be live music, cold beer and street food, since we all know tacos are the best way to soak up too much tequila. Mmm, drunk tacos.

Besides the charitable act of getting attendees tequila-wasted for just $25 a head, a portion of the proceeds will also go to La Voz del Anciano (The Voice of the Elderly), a local non-profit serving the needs of senior citizens.

I'd only like to point out to people to research the comments from last year's event. It was a terrible event. Crowded, expensive, long waits and deceptive. They billed it as an event where you'd walk out of there so drunk you NEEDED to take a taxi, however the margaritas they gave you were literally two ounce cups. Not to mention you had to make long lines to get it and on several occasions once you got to the front of the lines they just said "sorry we're out". Also, forgot the laidback-ness of Bishop arts as this event feels more like Greenville on St. Patricks.

Was there last year.  Long lines to get in and to get a "drink", tiny, tiny plastic glasses, kiosks ran out of booze.  I quickly found a chair at Eno's. Hope they work out the problems.

There were some issues last year certainly, but nothing that soured us on the event. Give it another whirl this year.

Mardi Gras gave us all another good reason to find a chair at Eno's

Mardi Gras didn't come with a cover charge. Why spend $25 to wait in line for communion cup-size samples when you can go to Gloria's and get awesome 'ritas for 1/2 that price?

Because it's fun? Although I have to agree with you - Gloria's = best 'ritas in town, hands down.

Primi, I believe they heard the feed back and are working out the kinks from last years fest.  See you there!
