Here's the Rangers' $26 Hot Dog

Click to embiggen... for real this time.
Remember when Oscar Mayer came out with the "bun-length" hot dog? They ran a series of commercials featuring white-bread Americans at cook outs wondering what to do with that bit of bun remained after they'd taken the last hot dog bite.

This will not be a problem with the new Champion Dog, recently announced by the Texas Rangers. Even though its bun is custom-baked, the Champion Dog hangs out of either end by a few inches. It will come topped with chili, sautéed onions and shredded cheese, but the pictured dog includes sliced jalepenos and processed cheese sauce. At a cost of $26 dollars, the beast is intended to feed three to four customers, but you know scores of Rangers fans are going to go all Joey Chestnut on this thing after a few ice-cold beers. I predict at least one child is driven to tears during the first homestand.

City of Ate will undoubtedly conquer the Champion Dog, but I think it may take two of us. We have some time to prepare, though. Opening Day is still 11 long days away.

I'd be interested to see what it looked like prior to digestion.

I agree there is nothing like a ballpark hotdog.  Way before current ownership s friend and I would go for the Dr Pepper discounted tickets and bring a small cooler with sandwiches from Jimmy's and spiked fruit juice in plastic containers.  Always made it through.  Used to live in the DC area and saw the Orioles-Pittsburgh series.  Incredibly we got all  4 home game tickets by mailing in $37 (total) to MLB,  Our tradition was KFC extra crispy.  It was a different world.

$26 for a hot dog? That's more than a bleacher ticket!!

bleachers? what are those.  They dont even have bleacher seats anymore

Too bad The Rangers didnt to actually pursue better quality products for concessions instead of constructing this monstrosity.... Heck, the Mariners have freshly made tortas, asian dishes and veggie selections at their games, why cant we have something of high quality at the ballpark??

We got back to back Penants;  what do the Mariners have?

Better ball park food and a general sense of good will...Trust me, there's better ball parks outside of Arlington...perhaps you should try visiting them ;)

I would assume the team would still dictate what's offered and for how much, but I wouldn't want Jerry near it if possible. It'd still be nice to have some better offerings, especially when you look around the league and see what other stajiums have done. I still want me some liquid cheese nachos sometimes (even though the AAC's are way better), but you think we'd be able to offer up some gourmet Texas fare too.

be careful, if the Rangers change food service vendors it would proabably end up being that damn yankee cowboy venture mr Jones started a few years, and we all know how expensive that food and beverage is in Jerry's World

Gotta agree with that sentiment. I'll gladly consume terrible hot dogs and nachos if it means the team is successful, but the Rangers really do lack in some areas, including food and marketing. Neither needs to be of minor-league, small-town quality.

yep, all kinds of food and snacks and beverages in non glass bottles that are non alcoholic.  They dont fuck around either.  They even took the glass perfume bottle from my wife's purse and threw it away.

Last time I attempted it, yes they did.  But I still prefer some good ol' ballpark food myself.

There is no reason why a good team cannot have as good of food as a bad team.  They used to let you bring your own, do they still?

There may be better parks, but not better teams.  I love new Kaufmann but the Royals are awful, who cares if they have sushi or the best bbq in the world, if the team sucks, no one gives a shit about going to the ballpark

Can't wait for $1 hot dog night.............

Here's hoping this is the only major thing the Rangers do this year that gives you faggots something to cry about.

What a crock of shit. So they roughly doubled the size of the coney at Sonic ,grilled the onions, and added 22 bucks to the pricetag. Yeah, I think I'll stick with the regular dogs with one pack of mustard and one pack of relish.

I guess you don't like your hot dogs very kick ass, do you?

How the hell are you even supposed to carry that, let alone eat it?

If it's intended for 3-4 people, do they cut it for you?

If you want an extreme hot dog, don't they already have those bacon-wrapped ones there?  Why do we need more ridiculous options?

They should call that thing, the "John Holmes" dog.

Aren't the seats at the ballpark like 18" wide?

kindofabigdeal

Don't forget the diagonal. you eat the overlying hot dog on the way to your seat and you have 20" left. Then, if you figure 9 inches from your mouth to your neighbors airspace in the length of the row and 18" from your mouth to the back of the person's head in front of you. The Pythagorean theorem tells us the diagonal distance is the square root of  9^2 + 18^2. Just over 20 inches. Perfect design aramark.

They really could've done something a bit more inspired than that for a $26 dog.

Deadspin had a slightly amusing dubstep remix of some of Nolan's comments about it from Friday on Galloway posted Saturday though. That Nolan interview was funny live.

How are you suppposed to carry that thing through a crowded ballbark?? I guess cut it or fold it, but sheesh! " 'Scuse me, just me and my big 2ft weiner comin'' through!"

I've been saying that in crowds for years...

I'm hoping to take a date to a game, where we're going to eat one of these Lady and The Tramp style.

I'm well aware we'll both look like tramps. lol.

Put on a show for the crowd.  Think Requiem for a Dream and you'll probably get videoed on to the scoreboard.
