Whitehall Exchange Opens in Bishop Arts

Categories: First Look

Whitehall Exchange recently opened in the Bishop Arts District, at the northeast corner of Bishop and West 7th Street. Billed as "bar and bites," this refurbished spot retained the old charm of the building and enriched it with stain glass and dark wood, giving it a swank feel.

Whitehall Exchange has an extensive wine menu, a dozen bottled beers and a cocktail list that rings of an era past with drinks like a Classic Gibson, Tom Collins and Salty Dog. Otherwise, mixed drinks are just call'em like you like'em.

The bites menu is written on the glass above the bar and can change daily, depending on what's fresh and perhaps what kind of mood the chef is in. Last Friday the offerings included charmoula and lime-fried almonds, spiced olives, crab cake, a cheese board and, the heaviest dish, a lobster risotto with citrus brown butter and truffle.

On nice days, those sidewalk barstools with the windows raised might be worth fightin' over.

This just in White Hall lowered their drink prices by 2 and 3 dollars.

I have been to W.H. a half a dozen times since they opened a few weeks ago. The staff is very friendly, their wine list is extensive and Matthew (the chef) is young, creative and it is obvious he loves what he does. It is one of the most comfortable bars I have frequented in some time. Beautiful decor and great music. One of the things that I enjoy is that after a significant drive from the north, I can enjoy flavorful food, good wine or drinks, watch some sports and relax without being elbow to elbow with kids that act like they just attained drinking age. It is worth paying a couple bucks extra per drink for that kind of environment. I highly recommend W.H.

I have been and it's unlikely I go back soon.  The drinks are wildly over priced.   The Chesterfield, by comparison, does amazing drinks for under $10.  Why this place feels they can charge $14 for a cocktail is beyond me.  The past place that tried over priced drinks in Bishop Arts was the short lived Cosmo Rouge.  Also, I asked about a flight of wine.  I thought this was a reasonable question at abar like this, but I was wrong.  They had not no idea what i was talking about. They do not know their wine.  Great location, though.  If they adjust their prices and get serious about their wine program, it would be a great place to enjoy a drink in the district.

the waitress we had didnt know their wine list at all and was just trying to push malbec on me.  she didnt even ask if i liked malbec, lol.  they need to seriously take a long hard look at their staff training of the beverage program, the contents of the beverage program, and their cost schematic because all three are out of line.  especially for the price point they are trying to achieve.

i have been, and the waitress was very helpful in my selection with wine. as far as all these negative reviews, i feel that this place is awesome. the prices are no different to those around. and well a 13 dollar cocktail was very much enjoyable since they are 3 oz pours- versus going somewhere that charges 9 dollars for a 1oz pour. some people just dont understand good products and or how to go out.

Geesh. I've read that repeatedly. Like the 7th or 8th review (and I've maybe read 10).

Great location. Love the feel inside. The bites look interesting and have gotten good feedback, but the drinks... That should be the easy part.

Most in demand in Dallas City:

Closely followed by:

-Quality BBQ joints-More bike trails for those fruity bike riders.  I mean the one's that plat dress up!

went the other night and it was horrid.  wine list was awfully overpriced & $13 for an old fashioned?  come on.

Ah man. That's too bad to hear. I've read about several bad wine experiences but was hoping it just isolated. Hopefully they're reading it too.

Nope. The current bar tender (that I met) is like a boat captain on Lake Michigan during the summer. Cool guy.

Hopefully this trend that took the market by storm in the rest of the country 3 years ago is over here also!  Why are we still 3 years behind everyone else?
