Oddfellows' Cupping Class
Tom Vincent of Texas Coffee School takes the business of grinding beans to a new level. And, yes, he actually has a school in Arlington. But he also regularly holds class at places like Oddfellows and The Original Pancake House in Addison.

He got into the brew business several years ago while working in Charlotte, where he attended a class at Counter Culture Coffee. For the next two years, he attended almost every event the shop held, then in 2008 he moved to Texas and began working as a coffee consultant. He and his coffee school were recently featured in the Arlington Citizen-Journal, if you're interested in the complete story.

Next week, Vincent is host of Dallas Coffee Education Week. It's a three-day event that begins on Monday at Oddfellows with a "cupping class." Basically the same idea of a wine tasting, it will feature the newest Oddfellows seasonal arrivals and runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, the learning continues at the Arlington Training Center for "Espresso Tasting and Exploration Class." Here students will try different grades of espresso including some single-origin beans. Class begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until 11:30 a.m.

Day Three, Wednesday, is at The Original Pancake House in Addison for "Coffee Brewing Method Comparison Class" from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will use some high-grade stuff from specialty roaster Cuvee Coffee.

Pre-registration is highly recommended for each class through the Texas Coffee School website. The classes range from $16 to $20 each.

That sounds really cool. I wish I could skip work and go. I could definitely use this.
