With the Red Tide Receding, It's Time To Eat Some Texas Oysters

Finally. We've been covering the red tide outbreak and its effect on oyster harvesting in the gulf for some time now. Last week the news finally shifted toward the positive. Many regions of the Texas Gulf shore have been opened to oyster fisherman.

I talked with Chris Van Deusen, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services, who told me the first waters in San Antonio Bay opened Jan 27. Last Thursday a large section of Galveston Bay was opened. Other areas continue to be opened as oysters are tested and determined to be safe.

So when can we start eating? Texas Oysters should be available soon in Dallas. Robb Walsh reports that at least one restaurant in Houston is already serving them, and Jon Alexis of TJ's Seafood hopes to have some in for Fat Tuesday. Get your oyster knives out Aters. It's shuckin' time.

I don't know where S&D gets theirs, but I had raw oysters on Tuesday and they were great. Had them at Acme in N.O. two weeks ago and they were so good.

Yeah, but the fish are so easy to catch because they glow in the dark.

You realize that it is not effing EXTREME to eat seafood right?  What are yer "bra's" gonna think?  You may get yer tribal tat's and Ed Hardy gear revoked!

Did you say Cotuit?  Cotuit Oysters......greatness!  I had em all the time when I lived in Mashpee, Mass (consequently, off of Cotuit Road); with that I apologize for offending you, call meslef a dumb ass, and then, apologize again.  This stuff down here is dog feces compared with Cotuit's. Great things to do in Mashpee/Sandwich Township:

I don't know from what pieces of evidence you're drawing such ridiculous inferences, but your slanderous accusations could not be more off-base.  I don't own any bras, I have no tattoos, and I'm repulsed by the mere MENTION of Ed Hardy.

I just happen to enjoy gulf oysters, though not quite as much as their Cotuit brethren.
