Johnny's Hog Heaven Pizza: Ham, bacon, sausage, andouille and jalapeños.
Johnny's Pizza House has opened its first North Texas location in Addison, at the northwest corner of Belt Line and Midway.

Johnny's is originally out of Monroe, Louisiana, where they have a fairly devout following. Their thick crusts are loaded with gooey cheese, and piling on the toppings is encouraged. The legendary "Sweep of the Kitchen Pizza" has 11 toppings.

The "Hog Heaven" is an eye-catcher, too. It has smoked ham, savory bacon, sausage, spicy smoked andouille and jalapeños.

Pizzas range from 8 to 14 inches. Prices are reasonable and start at $5.99 for a small one-topping and go up to $13.77 for a large one-topping. The lunchtime buffet is $6.99 and the salad bar looks solid ($3.99 for just the salad). The price for a kid's buffet is by year: $0.40 per year of age. And there appears to be a small game room in the back.

If you were thinking this sounds like Cici's, I'd say not. The food here is actually good. The atmosphere is definitely geared towards families, but they're also open until midnight on the weekends and serve beer.

Tuesday was opening day, and they say they broke the company's all-time record for sales in one day.

I'm from West Monroe, LA and live here in Weatherford, TX now. We have driven to Addison 3 or 4 times now for Johnny's Pizza, that should be a testament to how good it is!!  From their savory Sweep the Kitchen to just a single topping Pepperoni to the unbelievable breadsticks, I have never had better pizza. Tear it up Addison so maybe they'll put one in Ft Worth so I don't have to drive so far!! LOL Going today in fact!! LOL

Does anyone else find the City of Ate banner image at the top uses the picture of Lee Harvey Oswald getting shot disturbing? A man got shot and killed, and somebody thinks it's funny and in good taste to photoshop a corndog into his hand?

Who knows, maybe I'm the crazy one for not finding humor in another human being shot in the stomach!

Johnny's has a devout following for a reason...their pizza is phenomenal! You want find the new gourmet pizzas like you find at other places (Campisi's, etc) Try it & see if you like it. Check out their Facebook page & see how many people are begging for them to open a location where they live. For me, it is the best pizza hands down. I prefer the Sweep the Kitchen but I like a bunch of toppings. Their crust & sauce are very good & try a Muffeletta sandwich while there if pizza isn't in the cards. Many more locations already slotted for DFW so just wait & there may be one opening near you.

"Sweep the Swamp" (seasonal) is fantastic, too!

FYI Addison:  My daughter attended college in TX for a year.  When she flew home, I would often meet her at the airport w/a Johnny's "Sweep" in the car per her request.  Even before she knew it was there, she could smell it.  I have eaten pizza all over the U.S., even in Italy.  Don't know how they do it but Johnny's Sweep the Kitchen is as good as it gets. A satisfied Monroe, LA customer of 40+ years.

Louisiana pizza......is that like Connecticut BBQ? Gotta admit; looks good!  I'll just go to Sal's, Campisi's, or Cafe Roma.  Or, if I gotta go to Beltline and Midway, might as well go to Cane Rosso.

ps-The Kerg's misses Figaro's.  Doe's anyone remember Figaro's (spoken like Robert Plant)?

 Kergo 1,

Give Johnny's a try.  For 18 years, I used to live in the Monroe/West Monroe, LA area and we always had Johnny's for pizza.  They were very good to the schools in the area as well.  In Louisiana, they are famous for Pizza Pig-out fund raisers!  Granted the name is not Campisi's or Sal's, but you might like it.

Imma try it; looks good!

Better than Double Dave's? Dessert pizzas?

Come on SG......Double Dave's?  The one we had near us in Allen was open for like three weeks.  And they NEVER put fresh product out-never.

Had more than one buffet lunch at that location, and you're probably exaggerating. It was good, for a pizza buffet, and fresh. Plus it was open longer than that. Not as long as the Patriot Super Bowl victory drought, but longer than 3 months.
