The Worst of A-List Dallas' Best List

A-List
Just TRY to read these without shaking your head.
A-List Dallas recently published this list, called the "BEST of CityVoter Dallas A-List," which is a confusing name for a list, but that's beside my point. The point is, after all the nitpicking we let you guys do of Scott's top five lists, we figured we'd take a crack.

Let's start with the "Cheap Eats" category, shall we?

I'm a reasonable person, so I support the choices of Babe's, Flippin' Out (though I prefer them at lunch and they're not quite "cheap"), Barbec's (hello, gargantuan biscuit!), Plucker's (on 50 cent wing night), and even Fuel City (disputed, sure, but still a general area favorite). But you can't tell me that you can find the best cheap sandwich at the Great Outdoors or that the best barbecue is to be had at Sonny Bryan's.

Next I scrolled down to find "Great Meals," pausing only slightly to gasp at the choice of Charming Charlie's for Best Women's Accessories. Oh hell. This list never stood a chance.

A-List
Over at A-List, they use the term "great" very, very loosely.
Back to "Great Meals." These choices didn't stab me through the stomach at first. Best Brunch is Blue Mesa? More like biggest brunch, but okay. People really like value around these parts. Best Vegetarian redeemed us all a bit with Kalachandji's. I started to feel better. Then I read Best Italian, Tex Mex, Seafood and Chinese. Maggiano's, Mi Cocina, Pappadaux and PF Chang's, respectively. My heart sank four times, deeper and deeper. I tried to imagine how many of the 53,000 votes that were counted in this race toward mediocrity went to those four. This thought left me sad and embarrassed, kinda like I felt after watching the second Sex and the City movie.

If you voted for any of the mediocrity listed above, you are on probation. I will let you know when you can come out of the corner.

Blue Mesa for best brunch?! What a joke! I got sick last time I ate there. This list is put together by someone who obviously knows dick about good food in Dallas!

The BBQ at the original Sonny Bryan's on Inwood is definitely among the best in the city.

Hi Foodbitch - As CEO of CityVoter, I just wanted to chime in here and thank you for providing additional visibility to the winners of our annual Dallas A-List contest. More than 22,000 people registered and voted in 8 weeks to come up with the results you see here. Obviously, we invite people to vote because it's fun to debate what's great about where we live and everyone has their opinion (which is often different than those of magazine editors). Anyway, that's the spirit of what we do. We want to showcase what people love, not what they hate. The 22,000 people who voted wanted to recognize the businesses they love, and we applaud that. Congrats to all the winners of the 2011 A-List.

Fuel City?  REALLY?  Count the Mexicans out front eating those tacos, then head to Chano's in Oak Cliff where you need a translator to order.  They pickle their own jalapeno's.

Frankly, I'm glad you all voted for these lame ass places.  I hate waiting in line at Mai's, El Ranchito, Baby Back Shak and other locally owned places that kick corporate ass every day of the week.

Hum. Reads like the DO's Best Of Reader's Picks list...

This is what I despise about this city!  Sonny Bryans?   Come on.......that's like saying Papa Geno's is the best pizza is Boston.  Just wrong!  Ask Soulman's BBQ.  Ask Mike Andersons? Ask Coopers.  Hey, you know who's got a wicked bean burrito-Pancho's.  A city with zero class.

PF Chang's is the saddest for me, that's like voting Chef Boyardee best Italian food. I weep.

Fuel City? C'mon! Who are the sorry individuals who took the time to vote for that crap, and how do we school them?

These Best lists are nothing more than beauty contests and has nothing to do with the food.

I feel like there should have been a qualifier after every ethnic food category that said 'for white people.'

Best Indian 'for white people' - Clay PitBest Chinese 'for white people' - PF Chang's

Other acceptable qualifiers include 'for ignorant parents to bring their kids' and 'for people who are not aware there is a Dallas south of 635.'

the fact that "best sushi - blue fish" didn't even get a mention shows how bad the choices are.

i know i'm in the minority, but i actually like great outdoors, and am willing to pay a premium because i like it so much.

LMFAO! What a fucking joke! Whoever made up this list must live in New York City!

Well, you've got to blame the opinion-giving people of Dallas. Because 22,000 voters (see their CEO's comment above), not just a person, chose the winners.

I like Fuel City elotes the best, but agree with OCBlues that there are a LOT of great OC places that luckily people like Kergo 1 Spaceship will never find.  Wherever in North or Far North Dallas he obviously likes, I prefer he stay there.  Chano's..nom...El Si Hay...nom...I could go on and on.

Sorry Kerg but when I was in high school I worked at the original Soulman's on Broadway in the Land 'O Gar and you need to understand this one thing: It's Friggin Garbage!

Because that PF Chang's at Northpark is always completely dead?

Blue Fish created the Ahi Tuna Tower, and for that I am forever thankful. All other towers in town are a poor imitations.

You obviously havent eaten in NYC, otherwise you wouldn't even think a New Yorker would suggest these awful choices for 'best of' ...  Dallas has more chain restaurants than quality fine dining in comparison to NYC.

clearly never ate fuel city tacos. im almost more embarrassed for you 2 than the list.

McDonald's makes a lot of money as well, but I would hardly consider it good.

TacoTruth

Those tacos are TERRIBLE, and it's embarrassing how much people like them. The best tacos are at Pedrito's on Jefferson in Oak Cliff, but people never vote for that because it's not in the Bishop Arts district and they can't get over the novelty of buying gas station tacos.

I've eaten there a couple of times.  Then I drove back to OC to get that taste out of my mouth with some Cool&Hot al pastor and made to order elote cups at El Si Hay.  There are a lot better taquerias in Dallas than Fuel City.  A LOT better.  Try one.

Why would I go down to Industrial; ok, maybe to take a short cut to Bills, or to the Police station. But why in god's great earth would I stop there?  I'm not going to Lew, don't need bailbonds, I'm not a bum, and I don't need skank.

It's obviously a shit list, but let's not pretend suburbanites did all the voting.
