Dallas' Six Best Half-Price Happy Hours

Categories: Best Of Dallas

It's the New Year. Maybe one of your resolutions is to save a little scratch. But just because food is cheap doesn't mean it's good. Here are six spots we think do a good job of offering up the cheap eats, including this year's winner for Best Half-Priced Food. Get more of Dallas' best with our Best Of app, available for the Droid and the iPhone.

All Good Café (pictured above)
On Tuesday evenings at our favorite Deep Ellum cafe, you can order two entrées and only pay for the more expensive one. Chicken-fried steak followed up with some chicken-fried chicken for 12 bucks seems like a pretty decent deal.

Vickery Park
Both locations of this pub rock out half-priced everything from 4-11 p.m. on Tuesdays. A small meat and potatoes section of the menu is off limits, but appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas and more are go for gluttony. Vickery makes a pretty good burger, and it's a steal at $4.50

The ol' pharmacy offers half-priced appetizers Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. -- a perfect excuse to order up some of my favorite nachos, which don't photograph well but taste good. Not to mention that this is one of Dallas' better bars.

The Quarter Bar
On Wednesdays from 5 to 10 p.m., the bar menu prepared at Breadwinners and served at the Quarter Bar is half off. Pork sliders, pork tacos and pizzas, along with other standard bar eats, are all up for grabs

Anvil Pub
I like Anvil Pub for two reasons: Their bar food is solid, and they don't dick you around. From 4 p.m. till midnight on Tuesdays the whole menu is half off, with no exceptions. Get one of those crazy roulette pizzas or a pretty decent Reuben. It's all up for grabs.

The Libertine Bar
Everything but the cheese plate will tax your wallet half as hard on Tuesdays at the Libertine. It might be a good time to check out their food if you haven't in a while. Rosanne Dileo has returned to replace Taylor McCreary (who has moved to Prime Bar) as chef.

I'm confused by the inclusion of Anvil.  I have tried (and will continue ) to show them love for being a pub in Deep Ellum, but the food has always been a disappointment for myself and my friends.  Even the fries weren't that great.  I want them to succeed, but I honestly can't brag about their food.  I think that Discount burger night at Lee Harvey's is a better deal.

My wife and I went to the Anvil last night for the first time.  Bad news was we parked a bit down the street and felt somewhat uncomfortable walking down the block, being asked for money by a hopefully harmless man.  Good news was despite the beers being pricey, the food was a good deal AND we thought was very good.  We had the hummus which was spicy, but excellent.  The pita was warm, toasted and cut into strips.  Ceasar salad with chicken had crispy croutons and and plenty of chicken breast.  Chicken quesadilla was good with the tortilla on one side cooked until crisp - some may like it soft, but I liked it this way.  I got the Fish and chips with he carrots instead of the fries.  Carrots were very good and the fish was mild and went well with the lemon they served it with as well as the malt vinegar.  We also got a side of mushrooms which we enjoyed.  We finished with the brownie and ice cream sundae, which they called something else.  Whatever they called it, it came in a bowl was big and caused me to have to increase my workout time today.  Emily was our server, and was great, very laid back, very friendly.  She sat down at our table 3 times, which my wife and I really liked.  She got a nice, well deserved tip.  We will be back, and hope for a closer parking place.

Scott,   You need to get a car sir!  I don't see anything beyond dirty Dallas City......that's like 5% of the whole metro area?  In the famous words of a Mr. RW Whitt; "what the what?"

But the rest of the city is SCARY!Better to let everyone keep thinking that so there's always a place for me to sit at the really good bars.

Doesn't Bryan Street Tavern do half price pizza on Mondays?

Not to mention $2 domestic drafts, including Franconia.

LaGrange should be on this list!  They've got a Happy Hour every Wed-Fri and all day on Sunday AND they also offer their amazingly delicious tacos for 1/2 price during that time!

This article is about the " best" happy hours. La grange's flip floppy menu and watered down drinks just don't cut it. Oh $1 taco? $2 taco!! No $5.50 taco. Please. Raine, we all know you work for la grange here and there so your comments are just part of your job. What do you get a bar tab to defend his place? Go sell some candy bacon.

YOurface -- No one takes an anonymous posting seriously.  Find the courage to state your real name and then maybe you will have credibility.  For the record, The Observer did vote LaGrange "Best Bar" in Dallas and you can't get that with watered down drinks.  And as for the taco prices -- if you think the prices are too high for ingredients like buffalo and a menu designed by a top notch chef, then maybe Taco Bell is more appealing to your palate.  :-)

Pfft!! Lagrange didn't win best bar THIS year now did they :/ I can afford any price deary, it's just so exhausting reading $1 tacos!! Then they change the price without warning, like a bait and switch. LAST time me and my friends went there to have gross fall apart swanky piles of crap... Lagrange overcharged us for our food..WAY over charged. So sad. That place will shut down soon , it's an embarrassment.

Yes, I am not paid by a bar to post crap, therefore posting as anonymous is wise.also a person paid to post on behalf of a lame establishment is dishonest.

I take anonymous posting seriously...Just because someone doesn't want their name out on the web does not de-value their opinion. It's not spam or anything, not sure what you're trying to prove Raine Devries. Your food are mediocre. Times I've gone I was always underwhelmed.

Dear Steve,   That comment you posted on the stripper spelling bee is one of the dumbest comments ever.

Thank you sir.
