The Fan Sports Lounge in Victory Park Gets Its Party Started

The Fan Sports Lounge
The Fan Sports Lounge officially opened last night at the corner of Olive and catching-a-game-at-the-AAC. Between TV-plastered walls, a live broadcast booth for KRLD-FM 105.3 The Fan and the Uptown sports scene, there's plenty to watch.

While this spot isn't actually owned by CBS Radio, it houses a fish-bowl-like broadcast booth in the middle of the 8,000-square-foot restaurant. There's a game room in the back, and even further back are a few private party rooms.

This restaurant serves up traditional bar food: cheese fries, nachos, chicken sandwiches, California burgers, Earl Campbell sausage dogs, chicken tenders ... you get the idea.

Mondays are industry nights at The Fan, and this Monday, November 14, is the "Tuaca Inked Party."

The Fan is open from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Fridays through Sundays.

Wow, lots of haters out there. $2 PBR drafts, everthing on the menu under $10, a 200" HD big screen... sounds like a good place to see tonight's big fight for free to me.

Sad to read this by LDD and not get an interview with a chef, a sampling of the food, or anything else. Come on LDD, you're a first stringer. Followup plz.

I have to work in victory park, and just the description is enough to make we want to run from the place in a combination of fear, revulsion, and a little bit of that feeling from the walk of shame.

Damn, sometimes I really wish I lived in Big Doucheville..meant to say Big D..also meant to say not really.  Party down in Uptown bros..maybe pop the collars and stuff as well.

There are problems with sports bars.  The owners believe a lot of TVs and sports stations will bring in the business.  I only care for their hundreds of TVs when CC and DU are playing hockey and it's not televised on my TV with the undecipherable sports options.  Then I need a bar that knows how to runs its gear.

Then comes the drinks part, and as simple as opening a beer or pouring a drink may be, getting it done in a timely fashion and a proper way seems to challenge many bartenders.  I will groan if I order a martini and the bartender stacks 2 feet of ice cubes in the glass; I will leave if he pours the gin through the ice trickle down style.

Last is the food.  We all know what's on the menu.  Some bars can do it really well, like the Loon, and then there is most of the rest of them.

Personally Sam and Robert had the best deal going during the Rangers playoffs and Series.  Excellent commentating on the screen, my own whiskey and beer--cold, in a bottle, properly carbonated, and free of the must and mold flavors transferred from a thirty yard keg line which is cleaned by blowing out (human busboy mouth to chinese plastic tube) any living obstructions, and a bowl of my homemade bowl of red.  I wish more people liked WCHA hockey.

If Tom Colicchio can't keep a place open at Victory, there's no way a station that thinks Richie Whitt is suited for evening drive can keep a bar/restaurant going there. Besides, the station's coveted demo is much more comfortable on a mobile home's porch with a case of Keystones, a carton of smokes, and tub of cheese balls while the meth cooks in the kitchen.

All failed or struggling sports restaurant concepts. But an overpriced restaurant that opens up in a questionable location when the Stars are lucky to half-fill the building and the Mavs aren't around at all tied to a radio station that can't draw better over the air than the 1st place station's internet feed?

Good luck with that.

So The Fan (cbs) licensed its name to a private bar owner nex to Cumulus' new digs.  While its sounds like a great marketing idea for the Fan, what happens when the bar owner closes up show bc he cant turn a profit, much like many other sports bars around town.  will cbs dump more money into it to keep it afloat?  Or will they let it fail.  And if it fails, no one will know it was the private bar owner who shut it down, they will laugh because the The Fan bar failed.  not such a great marketing idea after all.  Which is why when people ask why didnt the Ticket do this, and I say its bc they knew it was a money pit and why take money out of their pockets from road shows to sit in their own bar?

If the business at this place holds forth like the station's ratings, it will be gone by the start of next baseball season.

I am sure that the proprietors will not pour money into a failing restaurant like CBS does the radio station.

Actually, I went here a few weeks ago during their soft opening.  They didn't have the full menu yet, but the meal I had there  was very, very good, and most importantly, very cheap.  Hopefully, it stays that way.  I think Victory may have learned from its everything "upscale" experiment.

OK, now that that is out of the way.  For $30.00, I bet you get three drinks (tops!).........for 30 bucks I can buy a case of Buds, and Whataburger after the game.  AND 105.3 The Fan?

Dear LLD,      I know you and your very intelligent readers probably don't know this; but the fan ABSOLUTELY sucks.  It is horrible trash that is kept alive by the CBS money bag.  It is TOTALLY unlistenable....totally.  There callers are dumb; the hosts are retreads/second rates from other stations (elf, Choppy, Josh, Greggo) , or worse mid to small market blowhards (the Shah from Kansis City, or Des Moines).  That's like Channel 27 having a booth down there. Sadly, that is not a drawing card, but rather a deterent for most of us loyal P1's.  Stay hard Brotha!

Coulton the MMA Doucher here!    I think that place is perfect for banging chicks, and driving my rented BEEMER 120 down the tollway. Wanna see my kick ass tribal tattoo's? I can wear my Oakley's on my head, at night, to show how freaking extreme I am man! Awww man, give me another mojito so I can forget that I work on a loading dock, and make $30,000 grand a year. And I live with my mom's.  EXTREME!

I'm with you. I've been there and I really like the place.  What I liked is the menu, with everything under $10. It makes for a very afforable meal and fun for people watching too.

What i think it funny is you complain about how horrible the Fan is but you've obviously taken the time to listen because you know the on-air talents names...seems funny when people "hate" something but then seem to know so much about it...and about the $30 bucks you can get 15 PBR's if you like or domestic beers are 4 bucks and nothing on the menu in regards to food is over $10 so maybe actually go to the place first before you start complaining about things you don't know anything about :)
