Bacon Cotton Candy
Hold ye ol' britches because this bit of food news could blow them right off. This weekend at the One Arts Plaza Fall Block Party (details in a few), Chef David McMillan of the Screen Door will whip up some "bacon cotton candy."

In my quest for more information on this unicorn-like creation, I found this review by Mary Constantine of knoxnews.com:

"Yes, I said bacon-flavored cotton candy, and before you wrinkle your nose in disgust, let me tell you, it was one of the most incredible creations I have ever tasted. I don't know the chemistry behind Brock's magic of rendering bacon into the flavorful fairy dust, but it worked. I only wish I could have bagged some up and brought it home for all to sample."

Evidently "Brock" in this post is chef Sean Brock of Charleston, South Carolina's McCrady's restaurant, who dabbles in molecular gastronomy. Well, if this is the results of that once-annoying-to-me-cooking-term, I am now committed to the cause 110 percent. Where can I donate?

The Fall Block Party, which is host to the bacon cotton candy, is this Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at One Arts Plaza. Festivities include a "creative Halloween sprits cocktail competition," live jazz from Hunter Sullivan and his band and a dog costume contest. Screen Door will have some chow and a few other food vendors will be there as well. But, who really cares? They'll have bacon cotton candy.
