Heart Attack Grill Continues Death Spasms

The News' Bruce Tomaso reported this afternoon that Heart Attack Grill, the controversial burger joint in the West End, may be on its death bed:

On Wednesday, a new sign went up, this one a notice that the landlord has changed the locks "because of delinquent rent payment or violation of the tenant's lease."

He's been checking in on the restaurant since we reviewed it here and reported that business has remained lethargic.

I called owner Jon Basso's cell phone after hearing the news. We talked at length before my review ran, but he's not answering the phone now. His Facebook page contains no news of the closure, but the official website for the restaurant has been scrubbed of any Dallas location information. Previously there was a map, directions and a phone number.

Basso had already bailed on his Chandler, Arizona store without warning. He told me that closure was a business decision, but local papers reported that zoning and permit violations were posted on the door.

In short, Basso's restaurant is turning into a traveling circus. As one location opens, another closes. It's unclear whether the Dallas location is closed for good, but it looks like things aren't going well for the good Doctor.

We'll let you know if Basso calls back.

I'm so pleased to hear this.  My son visited the Dallas location one Sunday after work.  I didn't want to go as I don't eat horrible food but I went with him anyway.  It was the worst dining experience I've ever had.  My son asked for one of those deathly burgers without cheese but it came with cheese anyway.  When my son asked for another burger, they simply scraped the cheese off and brought it back.  My son has a dairy allergy and told the waitress that was not acceptable.  The manager finally came over and berated my son who proceeded to do the same to the manager.  I insisted that we leave (I was embarrassed) and as we were leaving, the manager followed us to the door continuing to berate my son.  Of course, as moms are inclined to do, I admonished my son with a, "Told you so!!"

it was bland with no menu options. nothing for the kids. some burgers are better than others but how can you just mess it up totally? too narrow minded which was terrible cause the nurse outfits on the girls were almost worth it by itself

Seen it on the tele, never made it over there to try..Methinks someone reviewed it on here and said other than the portions..it wasn't anything to write home about.

Ifn I take a roadie for a burger, I'll head north to OKC and get me a Nic's or southbound 281 and veer off towards Fredericksburg and run on down to the Alamo Springs cafe.

Like another poster said, if dude could make a burger worth a shit, those protests would of had people lined up down the block.

That's EXTREMEly rosy view of the world. Mr. Hardy called, was wondering if you'd like a few more shirts.

Stay in Uptown,

Sincerely, Everyone

Bottom line is this:  Regardless of the gimmicks, if Heart Attack Grill's food was GOOD, it would probably still be open.  The food there was awful, so it didn't make it.  The End.

Well, the whole high fat kills you argument holds no scientific weight. Actually saturated fat is more stable chemically and the body must know it.  I say this because the body  makes saturated fat, not unsaturated.  From the chemical standpoint double bonds are unstable.

His Heart Attack Grill was actually healthier than other joints that use vegetable oils instead of lard.  This is all true, and based on science.  There is no study that has ever shown that saturated fat kills.  It's bogus.  Either way, lard is about half monounsaturated and only 10-15% polyunsaturated.  The rest is "artery-clogging saturated fat" which isn't really artery clogging at all.  If so, then like I said above our own body is trying to kill us! lol

Shame to hear it.  I only went here twice and wish I had gone more times. Silly protesters!

depending on how bad you son's allergy is, he should have taken a bite and spit it out that way you will get a new burger. I do that every time I go to Whataburger since they always fuck up my order.

That OSU fan employee of mine that I mentioned in the other thread lives in OKC now.  Our bet on the game is burgers at Nic's.  That place is the shit!  Totally worth the drive.

PlanoDave's food road trip:  North to OKC then West to Okarche for fried chicken at Eichen's Bar and Grill. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/46... Then on the return trip, hit Nic's for a burger and fries http://www.eataroundokc.com/ni...
