Dallas' Five Best Hangover Cures

Categories: Best Of Dallas

Victor Tango Chix and waf.jpg
The problem with writing this story is that I'm actually, and colossally, hungover, and blogging about cures instead of implementing them is a strange sort of torture I'm not sure I've ever endured. One thing's for sure: As soon as I hit the publish button I'm going to go get some grease.

You know the feeling. Too many So-Co limes last night? Maybe you gave up Budweiser in favor of some boozy Belgian brews for an evening and ended up tanked. Whether ushered in by a bachelor party, office event, poker game or your own lack of self-restraint, being hungover is terrible. The throbbing temples. The nausea. Your palate lacquered over with cigarettes and whiskey residuals.

These are City of Ate's five favorite remedies, including our recent Best of Dallas winners for Best Hangover Cure. Grab yourself a Bloody Mary and get to work. Get more of Dallas' best with our Best Of app, available for the Droid and the iPhone.

5. Victor Tango's Chicken and Waffles (pictured above)
Who orders waffles plain when they're hungover? I'll take mine topped with fried chicken and a pint or two of sausage gravy. VT's dish may be small, but the restaurant has a full bar. Supplement with hair from the dog as necessary.

English Breakfast.jpg
4. Trinity Hall's English Breakfast
If grease is your preferred hangover cure, then Trinity Hall pulls out all the stops. Fried eggs, bangers and bacon are just the start. Black and white pudding and a bowl of baked beans are ready to right your aches and pains, too. Buttered toast will soak up that vomit taste in your mouth and leave you in a cholesterol-laden, pleasant haze. You might even be ready for a shot of Jameson after.

3. Korea House's Spicy Fish Soup
I realize this one may seem like a stretch, but hear me out. Half the reason you feel like shit is dehydration. Sipping on a warm pot of broth can't hurt. But this isn't just any broth. Korea House's fish soup is spicy. It's mean. It will kick your hangover's ass. Drink some soju if you want to be twice as hungover tomorrow.

While I agree wholeheartedly that the breakfast at Trinity Hall is a great hangover cure, I am a bit confused by one thing.  Given that Trinity Hall is an Irish Pub and that they serve Irish food, wouldn't the breakfast be an Irish Breakfast and not English as it is labeled in this article?  I notice that the same glaring mistake is on the Observer Top 10 list as well.

This will piss in the cheerios of the tex-mex haters, but anything with the green chile sauce at Chuy's has been destroying my hangovers for 10 plus years.

I've always found a large order of greasy sonic tater tots loaded with cheese works best for me. And a cold Miller High Life.

Ok, this is Q Girl...guess I should have logged into this thing through facebook from the get-go...I tried to find that restaurant I mentioned to you Scott but to no avail...I will have to go back over there to get the name of the place and the information on the address...cause I can't find it online...Now, of course, if you don't like menudo it's probably not going to be the best option for a hangover...I can only say that I was so sick I thought I would not be able to eat again at all for hours but the menudo was like magic and the location is actually Red Oak, Texas off I-35 and Ovilla Rd. on the east side of the freeway.  Ok, i'm out for now..keep in touch! :)

Okay,,,,you failed to mention MENUDO!!! Which is the absolute BEST hangover cure...I know from experience! So, you should go to several mexican restaurants (only the non-Tex MEx places) and try the menudos to see which one you like best....Its the only thing that has ever cured my hangovers...MENUDO! LOL

You forgot to "Ask A Mexican"...he would have told you where to get good menudo (yuck).

Taqueria Zavala is legit.

I haven't been there in a looong time, though.

Yeah. So that menudo thing. Shame on me for trying it for the first time at Herrara's, but I got to be honest -- that shit made my hangover worse. I'll concede I likely picked the wrong place. Where should I go?

Sausage = dick. Not a whole lot you can do about it.

It is Nic, just love it! :) But my mom's menudo is awesome! nobody can beat it...just my opinion. :D

There is a joint called Tipico's off of NW Hwy and Webb Chapel (I think), near the lake. I've heard good things, but have never been.

I think we should all get bombed and go find out if it works.

Scott, you really showed your newbie Texan status by missing the menudo, which is probably the most universally used and acknowledged hang over cure in Texas.  Try El Taquito on Grand Ave.  Cash only.  And it is only served Saturdays and Sunday.

I see an awful lot of Latinos enjoying Menudo at El Jordan on Sundays.

Sybils is right, but, the best menudo I had in a restaurant was in Waxahachie at a whole in the wall off I-35 and Ovilla Rd...Let me search the name...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay away from Tex Mex if you want authentic MEXICAN food .LOL..i'll get right back to you in a few.

Sybils_Beaver
Sybils_Beaver

Find a mexican, a true mexican, or one whose parents actually lived in Mexico and then ask them to have you over for menudo.  Its the only way to go.  Ive found that menudo at a restaurant just doesnt hold up to that at home experience.

Sybils_Beaver
Sybils_Beaver

but its that particular sausage, and the shape it was laid on there.  Trust me Im a beaver, and that thing looks a lot like what sybil sends my way quite often

love you scott

I think my grandma might have something to say about that.

Nobody ever makes it as well as mom/grandma...that's a fact.

I've been to Tipico's but have never had their menudo...its been a long time since I went there and the last few times I tried to go, it was so damned packed there was no way to get a seat so had to leave...

I'm gonna have to try that place...hope its good! :)
