Eat This: NHS Tavern's Cleaver & Block Burger

This burger's been my albatross. I had it just a few nights after arriving in Dallas, and I've been searching for a better burger ever since. I'm not finding one. I'm not saying NHS serves the best burger in the metroplex (yes, there's an app for that), but it's definitely the best burger I've had since I got here. The menu says the blend contains brisket and chuck, but what it doesn't tell you is that the meat is ground in house. It should. It makes a difference.

Despite being over-cooked, (I asked for medium but got well-done), this burger retained its succulence. It left a puddle on my plate while I reveled in cheddar cheese, a jar-load of pickles and a thick slather of mayo. That bun, completely crusted over with sesame seeds, it worth a mention too. It's a nice touch.

I am, without a doubt, a burger-meister. I fear the day my doctor tells me it's time to cut back on my ground beef. I'll keep poking around and see if I can find a better rendition, but for now, I think it's safe to say this is one of Dallas' finer specimens. Go eat one. Now.

Definitely try Wingfield's. You will not find a better burger...possibly anywhere.

did you get it with some Bud Ice? ; )

also recommend: Stodg Burger at the Porch, obviously burger at the Grape

for chain-y type of burger I've always loved Burger House, just simple, done right and the fries are excellent.

I also ventured up to Scotty P's in Plano, it is very good as well. thick burger, cooked to Medium as i asked. fresh cut fries.

Try the burger at Cedars Social.  Awesome... The burger at RedFork was my favorite before the staff shakeup don't know if its the same now or not.

@Jon Daniel, You are so correct about Snuffer's and besides, they only serve one undrinkable white wine.  A very sad story of a once great place.

Dear New comer,

Get thee to the Stoneleigh P. its near your office. Word of warning, no ketchup on premises.

Unfortunately, hypertension and bad BMI have me curtailing burger consuption.

So what's with these ridiculous over-sized meat patties (Yeah I'm talking to you Twisted Root and Snuffers)? Just give me a reasonable amount of meat, not anything the looks like it might induce gout. I know, I know the general public thinks quantity equals quality, . . .

R & D Kitchen.    Hillstone.    Burger House - hold the seasoning.   Maple & Motor if you want to eat around scummy people.   Chip's.

I think Reitz would like the vibe at Milo's so long as he doesn't land there on the occasional SMU night. Agree it's a great shitty burger.

Seconded. I clicked on this post just to make sure someone repped for the Stodg.

Maple & Motor's clientele isn't scummy, it's arthritic and pale. And why do you constantly rep R & D Kitchen? got some money invested?

I've never liked Snuffers and I moved here after the Reagan administration.   So what bizarre mind-fuck happened during the Reagan years?  Everyone wants to go back there and I don't understand why.

I consider any restaurant in the Park Cities full of scummy people, you need to stick with Applebys so your delicate sensibilities aren't upset.

scummy  = non-white in this instance

Who said anything about going back? the first burger I had at snuffers in 1980 was great. It was great for a few years, then bad ever since. But it is on a long list of old mediocre places that Dallas (especially Park Cities People) love, even though they suck. Add Javier's and Campisi's to that list.
