After 24 straight days of 100-plus degree temperatures, there seems no way to escape the vile clutches of a sweat bath the instant you leave the house. Fortunately, City of Ate has found some places to bring your core temperature down from scalding. So before you rush out to the movies to see the aptly timed An Inconvenient Truth 2: Inconvenience Day, drop by one of these joints and pick up some relief.

The Remedy: Shaved ice
With a softer texture than its cousin, the snow cone, shaved ice is the best way to enjoy pretend snow doused in sweet flavored syrup. Flavors like Dreamsicle remind you of your childhood, while flavors like Tigers Blood remind you of three months ago, when the high temperature was 84 degrees and Charlie Sheen was relevant.

Where to get It:
TC Shaved Ice, 10999 Garland
Greenwood Shaved Ice, 6971 Arapaho

The Remedy: Boba Tea
Ah, the drink that eats like a meal. There are tons of things you have thrown into your cup and subsequently suck out of a huge straw: tapioca balls, fruit flavored jellies, bursting bubbles, whole fruit and the list only grows from there. Your best bet is to go with the classic tea-milk-balls trifecta and enjoy a few minutes in the air conditioning before venturing back out into the inferno.

Where to get it:
Fruitealicious, 2150 N Josey Lane, Carrollton
Fat Straws, 6509 West Park Blvd., Ste 425, Plano

The Remedy: Ice cream
If you're tired of eating the sexually frustrated ice cream with the kid and the cow on the label, then you've spent way too much time thinking about ice cream. What you need to do is get up, put some pants on, and go to either of these outposts to get some incredible scoops from homegrown businesses.

Where to get it:
Beth Marie's, 117 West Hickory Street, Denton
Henry's Homemade Ice Cream, 3100 Independence, Plano

The Remedy: Impromptu refreshment
Craving a spontaneous blast of cool? If you happen to be in the right place at the right time, you could partake of the products of these insatiably popular food trucks.

Where to get it:
Nammi Food Truck's Basil Lemonade, various locations
Enticed Shaved Ice, various locations

Best boba tea in town is in Koreatown at Taekook Dang. They also have Korean shaved ice w/ fruit & ice cream (looks a lot like the photo), pat bing soo, so you could get most of the list in one place.

Aunt Stelle's is still around.  I'm a Facebook fan of Aunt Stelle's, but TC is at least as good.  Pretty hard to screw up shaved ice and sugar water.  As usual, Bigjondaniels fails.

no YOU fail. How the ice is shaved is the difference, and no tamarindo at TC's. Do I have to come out in the parking lot after class and kick your ass?

"you fail"?  "kick your ass"?  Somebody REALLY misses middle school.
