Really Chick-fil-A? Daddy/Daughter Date Night?

Chick-fil-A isn't OK with working on Sundays, but they do seem to be OK with dads dating daughters.

June 18, the day before Father's Day is Chick-fil-A Daddy Daughter Date Night. So, if you're currently dating your dad, know that starting at 5 p.m. that day, 70 Chick-fil-A restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area will welcome you with open arms.

A couple gems from Chick-fil-A's press release about the event:

"During this special evening, fathers and daughters are encouraged to spend some time together while they enjoy dinner, great conversation and several special activities.

"There is no admission fee for the event. The only cost is for the food the
daddy-daughter pair order."

The press release suggests that you visit daddydaughterdate.com/DFW for more details and to make reservations. So we did, even though our firewall thought the content was probably going to be NSFW.

Of course a romantic theme is appropriate. Chris Hansen, please be attending this event.

I can't even take you seriously. This is the dumbest complaint I've ever seen. I really hope it's a joke that I just don't get. Nobody in their right mind would think this was in any way sexual. Get your mind out of the gutter, for goodness sake. People with sick minds like yours are what's wrong with this country. Unbeleivable. Because you can't find a legitimate reason to go after a wonderful Christian establishment, you try to make one up. It really just makes you look like a complete moron.

This is silly....  I have taken my daughters out so many times I cannot count.  And we talk about everything, including what guy NOT to bring home.  (better have his pants pulled all the way up) I also try to always get the door for her.  Doesn't matter that she is a blackbelt.  It's about raising her expectations.  Go! Chick-fil-a!  Also, brought Valentines Flowers to school to be delivered to them since they were in daycare.  (...well... in daycare/K5 it was tiny stuffed animal type arrangements.) [Googling for the event I found this article.   Certainly not a blog subscriber.]

The idea behind Daddy dates is to teach your daughters to expect to be treated like a lady on a date.  And to have special daddy/daughter time too of course.

You're an idiot.

Alice Laussade , do you think this way because your dad thought of you as a sexual object?  That is the only reason I can see you twisting the good work of Chick-fil-a in the community.

Are you really that stupid ?

I'm a mom of 4 grown Children. My husband and I have 2 sons and 2 daughters. My husband has routinely taken my daughters out for dinner "dates". One of the purposes of this is so that your daughters know thaey are special, Pretty, and valued. That way, they don't fall into the sack with the first creep that whispers sweet nothings into their ear. AND...As a previous poster said this also lets them know how they should be treated on a date. The way they should be treated is with respect, not talked down to, groped or pressured into doing something they are not ready to do. My daughters have always cherished this time with their dad and my youngest one, now 20, will be attending the one coming up in our area in October. My oldest would love to attend as well but is currently living out of state. Unfortunately I was not so lucky, I grew up in a very disfunctional family because my dad was a drunk. Coming home at all hours of the night and expecting a full meal, beating my mother and I and this was not the worst of it. I'm so happy that I married a wonderful man who loves his wife and children. He always has time for all of our children. Whether it's helping one of the boys (the oldest is almost 29) fix their cars or taking one of our precious daughters out on a special "date".  PLEASE don't twist something positive and innocent into something sick and ugly.

I'm in Baltimore and saw this at a drive through.  I thought it was a great idea.  It sounds like Alice has issues of her own after reading this!

Alice, I'm sorry you see this so negatively. My six-year-old and I attended the event at the Chick-Fil-A on Stacy in Allen and really enjoyed it. I wish more dads would show their daughters how they should expect to be treated by the men in their lives. It is a role I cherish with honor.

I wish my dad would have been interested in taking me to something like this when I was a kid instead of staying out late getting drunk, then coming home and being abusive. Shame on the author of this article, and praise to all the good fathers out there who took their daughters out for a special evening!!

I went to one of these sponsored by the girl scouts in like 1992 and it weirded out both me and my dad equally.

This is a bad article. For anyone who's trying to be a good dad and actually goes to classes, conferences, etc., you're always told to 'date' your daughter so she knows how she should be treated on a real date. If you want your daughter to date a good man and not a jerk, then you should be the one to show her what a real man acts like. The article is not funny and it dissuades readers to do the right thing-to be a real man.

Seriously? This was worth an article? Who wrote it a 6th grader?

Only a deuche bag could twist this.

I've never read any of Alice's stuff but does she like to write blogs to fire people up? I've heard that it's important to have a date night with your daugther from time to time, basically different from a date you'd have with romantically. It's just a time to hang out, relax and spend time with daughter. Frankly, I'm glad Chick-fil-A is an organization that promotes time with family. God knows we need more people and businesses like that today.

Man, I didn't know that there were so many incestuous pedophiles who read this blog.  Go ahead, try to defend your deviant lifestyles...

Come on, Alice. Seriously? You are turning a father-daughter event into something sexual?

I don't have a daughter, but the other patrons won't know that. All they'll know is that a 50 yr old guy and a 15 yr old girl showed up for date night and spent most of the evening fishing out pieces of chicken from one another's mouths.

A dinner date with Alice and her dad...

Alice - "Holy balls. This meat is fucktastic. Give me some sauce and I'll be happier than a fat man at Baby Dolls."

Alice's Dad - "I'm glad you liked it. Now please for the love of god shut up and let's get to the restaurant".

OMG! Lighten up! Its a father daughter dinner. Time to connect and have a nice meal. This author is insane!

Do you have to have a daughter to go on date night, or is it cool if I just hang out near the soda machine and drink Coke Zero?

Poor taste.  Not surprising, given the author.

Red hearts, romance and date nights are for significant others, not for children, and so I find this more than a little gross.

Balloons, silly family games and giveaways for future family events, however, I'd think much more appropriate.

If anybody took me to Chick Fil-A for a date there would be no relationship.  If that date was my dad then holidays would be very awkward.  Chick-Fil-A is ruining families.

But its not humourous. Even if you try to read it with an ironic slant. I do think this is a nice idea. Many parents refer to special time one-on-one with their kids as a "date" and without the inappropriate innuendo. Particularly for Dad and Daughters, that dont always relate easily, I think it is a nice thought. That said, when I am at CFA with my son, he spends most of the time in the play area... so while the thought might be nice, the implementation may be lacking.

Sigh... the article is supposed to be humorous. I swear, some people....

I concur, Guest. Why do things like this upset the "Observer Set" so much? Who cares? If it's so asinine, then why even care? Why give it lip-service? This website is the home of the adolescent mind. It gives good progressives a bad name.

Alice, it sounds like you have some daddy issues of your own if you're going to try and turn that into something incestuous.

It also apparently is the home of idiots with zero sense of humor.  For example, the first 3 people that posted.

No G, we have senses of humor that are obviously a bit more sophisticated than yours.  The joke Alice is making with this story is too obvious for her to waste her time on.  And she clearly has an issue with chick-fil-a due to their conservative position.  This just smacks of desperation on her part to take a shot at them.

Well, the word 'date' didn't use to mean what it does today. The fact that dating now means hooking up afterwards should be more of an indictment on our society and culture than on the restaurant using it for their campaign. And as far as the sandwich, you can always requests all kinds of sauces and dips.

The hell it does.  If you want sauce they have it, but that sandwich is flippin perfect.

Okay, I underestimated your sophisticated sense of humor.  Sorry about that.  But since you apparently keep reading posts by somebody you don't like, I'm sticking with the "idiot" part of my statement.

Alice Laussade

I mostly have a problem with their use of the word "date" here. And their lack of sauce. I don't care how juicy the chicken is, that sammich needs more than pickles.
