Lurlene's Having a Baby! Let's Go Eat It!
Yay! Lurlene's birthing a brisket this Saturday!
Compared with this, your baby's ugly.
Pecan Lodge is once again firing up its barbecue pit, named Lurlene, this Saturday. Which means from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. you can get your mouth on some of Pecan Lodge's delicious burnt ends, plus mesquite-smoked brisket and ribs.
And even better, pitmaster Justin Fourton promises "new additions" (including house-made smoked sausage and pulled pork) to the barbecue menu. I couldn't stand it. I had to talk to Lurlene myself.
Me: Hey, Lurlene.
Lurlene: (blank stare)
Me: So, I hear you're pregnant with a giant brisket baby and you're delivering this Saturday. You excited?
Lurlene: (continued blank stare)
Me: Epidural or are you going natural birth? You got a doula?
Lurlene: (silently judging me)
Me: You should get a doula. Mainly because then you get to say "doula" a lot, which is an awesome word. Doula. Doooula.
Lurlene: (nods lid in agreement)
Me: Anyway, good luck with the brisket shootin'. Hope it doesn't blow any of your parts up too bad. If so, a few sets of smoker kegels should get you right back in business.
This Saturday, stop by Pecan Lodge and you'll get free samples from their new and improved menu. Those of you on The Twitter should also know this: There's a free Father's Day Barbecue Sampler for 10 (including smoked brisket, ribs, sausage, pulled pork and burnt ends) up for grabs to whoever comes up with the best Pecan Lodge T-shirt slogan. Use the hashtag #pecanlodgebbq, be funny and win yourself enough barbecue to feed you and nine friends (assuming you have nine friends). At the time this was written, exactly zero people had submitted ideas, so you've got really good odds of winning. Until I start submitting ideas. Then, you're screwed.
